Prius C makes the Insight look extremely inferior?
Hey everyone.
So I've been hearing much rant about the new Prius C and how it will get 53 MPG city and I can't help but think how Honda is going to keep a straight face by selling the 41 MPG 2012 Insight that is about the same price?
They also say the Prius C will have more standard features than the Insight at the 18.5K-19K price point? Like 6 speakers, cruise, and audio controls on the steering wheels vs. 2 speakers and no cruise/audio controls on the base insight?
I have posted before on this forum about me having serious issues with 2010 Insight EX and now has 45K miles. So far, a partial melt-down of the IMA system, left axle, and driveshaft assembly have been issues and thankfully I have a 6 year/120K warranty but im tempted to get rid of this car as soon as the Prius C comes out and I may buy a Prius V 3 or 5 to replace my aged 04 CR-V too.
Im guessing Honda will probably give up on the Insight, provided I don't think they can compete with the Prius anymore unless they can get 55 MPG+ on a new one that costs under 20K.....
So do you people think that the Prius C is worth trading for? Comments appreciated.

One is a subcompact, the other is a compact. You pay for more car (more materials, more mass, more associated cost). The C is less car. If you are that pressed for more MPG get a motorcycle. Or better yet, a really sweet bicycle. Or a moped.

I got an EX for a reason. Also I doubt I will ever buy another new car that didn't have projectors, which the C doesn't have. I also tend to like the Insight's tilt wheel that telescopes, another thing the C doesn't have. My wife and I have to change it every single time we get in since we have our personal preferences. She likes it higher, I like it as low as possible. BTW, you get both of those features on the base model of the Insight - which I'm sure you realize.

Yea, you got a lemon'ish Insight, and that sucks. You're the only person on here I've seen that has had such peculiar problems.

For you it probably is. You unfortunately got screwed on your Insight (it would appear). For me, considering I already own an Insight which is awesome as can be, hell no. Downgrade.

The problems you are describing are very unusual. The most common problem for the Insight Owner is the rubber roof strips coming loose. There is a member with almost 110 thousand miles that had virtually no problems except his blower motor crapped out. That's to be expected as he lives in Flordia and with lots of use.

The absense of projector headlamps is a deal breaker for me as well. They are SO much better than traditinal headlamps. Slap a 50 dollar HID lkit in them, and they are awesome.

I wouldn't even consider getting a Prius C than a 2nd Honda Insight. It's a smaller vehicle and you're only saving a few miles per gallon. The estimated MPG for the Insight is underrated I think. Right now, I'm getting about 46mpg with mostly highway driving in cold weather and during the summer I could get 55+ mpg.

I believe the C is basically a hybrid Yaris. Now that is a really low end crap box. But Toyota and hybrid are synonymous, so they'll probably sell a lot. Hopefully people will check out the options.

If it is indeed a Hybrid Yaris you ain't kidding about it being a crap box. I drove a Yarris as a rental on vacation a year ago and to say the ride and handling sucked is an understatement.

I think if it was just a Yaris hybrid, they would just sell the Yaris hybrid. They sell it already in Europe.
The Prius C is a new car loosely based on the Yaris platform, unless you want to call the Insight II a Fit Hybrid because it's based on the same platform.
Not to say, of course, that the handling won't be pants, it is, after all a Toyota.
