Diana's right - go with the Insight. The 2013's are out (aren't they??) so you should be able to get a 2010 or 2011 at that price. I had an '02 Insight before my 2012 and the suspension feels like a Mercedes in comparison. I haven't knocked any teeth loose on railroad tracks lately and I'm squeezing close to 50 mpg out of it, although I suspect Winter mileage will be more like 45.

I appreciate the responses.
Jivko, I get what you're saying, but you're taking the worst case scenario on the sale/buying of the car. I would never trade in a car to a dealership - they always bend you over on a trade in. I've sold tons of cars privately and dont mind it. We paid $22,500 out the door for the 2011 Sorento (That's LOW for this car - got a stellar deal on it), and now with 38k miles I'm estimating we can get $18,500 for it (based on KBB and other craigslist sales).

The Insight I'm looking at has similar miles (34k) and is priced at $14,500). That's a 2010 model. I'd also buy privately, so skip the $500 dealer fee. So after taxes we'd walk away with a couple thousand dollars and a better MPG car.

Not much to add to what's been said, but to agree with some of the other posters:

Avoid the Civic Hybrid like the plague. As for Insight vs Prius, I love the Insight and have my reasons for getting it (different, fun, prefer the styling inside and out), but I think that for most people, the Prius is the rational choice. Less risky reliability-wise and similar or better fuel economy. Smoother ride, too.
