I have a RAM Longhorn, so all i'm looking for is a commuter to drive to work and then drive home, plus I have to park in a city ramp at work and I hate wielding the truck around in there.
Although the CR-Z doesn't get the same mpg as the Prius or Insight. I just couldn't see myself being anything but bored with those two.
Thanks all for your input.
Congratulations, and enjoy. 30mpg will be a lot better than the 16 your Ram is getting.
Back when I was thinking about buying my Insight, I put together a little calculator to see how many miles I'd have to drive to justify buying a more expensive, but more fuel efficient car.
I cleaned it up and made it public. Hopefully someone finds it helpful. (You guys will have to take turns if more than one person has it open)
I sat in a CR-Z when I was at the dealership for the Insight. The CRZ was never on my radar due to the small interior and the not so stellar performance and fuel economy for the money, but I had to check it out. For some reason, I felt very claustrophobic in it - the hood seemed way high/seating too low and rear visibility... what visibility? So for me, if it ain't gonna go, at least it should provide utility and be cheap and reliable, which the base Insight has been for me
Other than the jerky transmission and weak battery, which do not inspire confidence, I hope the rest of the car is pretty reliable. Mainly, because it is so much simpler than the Prius that has a LOT more that can go wrong with it...
On my longer daily commute this week (8+ miles each way, mostly highway and easy suburban traffic) I had no problems getting over 50mpg on winter gas and cold temps. But my average still hovers around 40mpg due to a lot of short trips on a cold engine...
Oh gawd, the crz is a dog once over 45mph regardless of your gear selection. I suggest you sat aside 800 bucks to buy a hondata tuner if you go that route. You can open up the engine for performance or the ima. For ima just reduce the rev limit.
I was trying to make the same decision I chose the 2013 Insight EX. The Prius C has an advantage in the city as far as MPG, for me I do a lot of mixed driving, my 2001 Insight which I loved had consistant mpg on both highway and city driving. In the end my love for my 2001 Insight, the styling of the 2013 inside and out I like much better than the C and my mixed driving, I chose the Insight and am already averaging 50.4 in my first 2 days of ownership.
I have a '12 Insight with Navi, and I can stream music over Bluetooth just fine. I can even watch YouTube videos on my phone and the sound is carried over Bluetooth to the car. Very convenient, you don't ever need an AUX cable anymore. Though, on the Insight Bluetooth, the audio is delayed when streamed to the car. So when watching TV on the phone, the audio and video is out of sync by like 1 second or so.

Do tell.... I have a 2013 with Bluetooth (no navi) and the owner's manual and dealer were no help in figuring out the streaming of music, let alone video, over Bluetooth. I'd love to do Pandora over Bluetooth. On shorter trips, much handier than connecting and disconnecting the USB cable.

The video is not streamed over Bluetooth, only audio. I just paired my phone with the car and that's about it. It automatically works in phone mode and audio stream mode. You just switch the source on the car to Bluetooth and you should get all the audio from the phone regardless of the app or game running. I have Android and the Navi EX so I can't say for sure how it works with iPhones and non-Navi versions.

One thing to take note though is that Bluetooth is really low in volume when streamed to the car. I usually have to turn the volume beyond 30 to hear a decent level.
