Question What is this? On the Dash

I assume this is (in the red box) a change drawer but it could be the computer OBD II terminal for all I know. I am very interested in purchasing this vehicle but haven't test drove it yet.

Can someone enlightenment, please?

Thanks in Advance.

Best,

Steven

It's just the door to a little storage area. I keep the power adaptor for my phone/satnav in there.

Just below that is the power port and a mini stereo input for audio. The usb is in the center console. (EX & Navi models only, at least in 2010 & 2011) The usb (for instance) charges and connects an iphone to the audio system. In NAV equipped ones it displays songs, albums and such. That can be controlled from the steering wheel, the nav screen, voice command and with the latest os update, the iphone/ipod itself. NAV equipped Insights also have bluetooth for the phones. Several can be paired, but only one active at a time.

I believe its a garage door or gate remote control. Others have hacked and installed the map light combo over head that includes it from another model Honda.

I was going to say that that was about it's interior size.

Cobb, I'm not sure what you are on about. Homelink is what you are thinking of. Made by Johnson Controls, they are used by many manufacturers. In a Honda they are part of the map light unit. I bet that a unit would fit from some other Honda. However, in NAV equipped Insights, the mic is also built into there, complicating it's replacement. There may be another Honda with a mic & homelink. But it doesn't have anything to do with the storage pocket circled in the attachment in post 1.

I'm really not impressed with the look of the NAV system. Not really sure if it is something I will need or not. Aesthetically, I find the standard equipment more appealing and unfortunately, I only have access to one 2013 Insight in my hometown to test drive.

Is it possible to use my ipod on the standard equipment or is that only an option with the NAV equipped?

But the radio that comes standard looks better. It may sound picky, but I plan on having my next vehicle for 10-15 years so I am taking my time. My current vehicle, a 2002 Ford Focus ZTS that has only 130,000 miles, should get me another 70,000 or 5 years. I have taken care of it for 10 years, so it should last me a little longer. However, if something does happen, I want to be ready with a reliable vehicle.

I have the 2010 EX without NAV and I can plug my MP3 player into either the USB connection in the console or the aux port under the radio.

Yes a usb is standard on EX models. Now the EX also includes bluetooth. In 2010 & 2011 the only way to get bluetooth was to get NAV. That was the main reason we went for it. (also, at the time, we got a killer deal and did not really pay much for it) I would not buy any vehicle to keep for ten years that did not have bluetooth.
