Smile Advert removal

I could not stomach those bloody adverts any longer. Based on UK prices and the fact that my last car was a 1.8 Mazda MX5 that got 41 mpg(imperial) I will have to drive the Insight about 560 miles before my advert removal lifetime membership pays off

just curious, does buying a membership actually help much? Is it worth it? This is such a great site, but the load times are HORRIBLE. I guess I like this site so much, I don't really mind even justmaking a donation, but figured I'd ask someone first.

TIA

This site is dire without a membership with zillions of adverts etc as you all know.

Just found Ghostery which identifes how much Ad tracking is going on and is quite revealing. Arrgghhh!!

Ghostery

With firefox there are other solutions which when combined with Ghostery and a membership subscription make it quite reasonable.

The site is supported by adverts for non members, but once you have a subscription then anything goes as far as blocking crap goes IMHO.

Bring back the days it was just a forum with no ads - till someone saw a way of making a quick buck (and more) and sold out.

I don't think Benjamine made a quick buck out of the sell.
It takes a lot of time to keep the site up to date. He just didn't have the time.
When was the last time you heard from the new owners of the site?
At least Benjamine was a member.

I'm not so sure, I bet Autoforums paid him several hundred if not thousands of dollars, + he really should have offered it to the members first, selling it from under us was very poor IMO.

Just installed that ghostery addon and it blocked about a hundred or more images and scripts from this site, plus seven data miners. Wow. Thanks!

The Firefox addon ad filter called ' A d b l o c k _ P l u s ' in conjunction with some established ad lists [ Fanboy or EasyList ] works fairly well. Some ads though are 'whitelisted'; you can configure it.

This is what I get:

I use adblock plus on both firefox and chrome, and the site is fast as any other.

They give me an ad-free account, but I pay more per month than you guys do for a lifetime membership.
