Hey guys, i'm Dan and i currently drive an '05 Toyota Corolla LE. The guys who went to the CT Insight/hybrid meet back in Oct may remember me. I could be considered a hypermiler/ecodriver due to the way i drive and the mods i have on my car.
I been checking out this site for quite some time and i've decided that if anything happens to my Corolla, a 3rd gen Prius or 2nd gen Insight will be my next car. Most definitely a new Insight because i like these cars a lot better and i've read many places where u guys get way over what the EPA says u should be getting.
I look forward to meeting u guys and becoming part of ur community

I average 25% above EPA rating, but went up to 34% above in summer warmer days. May be a bit extreme, but if you already have hypermiling techniques, you can expect this kind of result from the I2. Some drivers even get a bit better.
Hey Dan, we've got Fl Fyr Fytr mentioning wheel skirts and now you've got me curious how these look, you wouldn't happen to have pictures somewhere that you could post here to show us, would you?
I noticed my 95 Prizm(Corolla with a GM body) is getting a little rusty especially in the wheel well area and thought about wheel skirts on it but was a little shy with putting the effort into actually pursuing it since I wouldn't know if results would be worth it or if it would look acceptable to me.
I'm imagining using polycarbonate(same stuff that bullet proof 'glass' and safety glasses are made of), prepping and matching it to the color of my car, I've got some experience working with it and a thin piece of it goes a very long way with strength and is easy to cut up and modify since the stuff cuts with wood working equipment and behaves like wood in most respects using a table saw, band saw, powered mitre box, and handheld sander/grinder type multitool as long as you are very careful with eye protection since it flakes into sharp shards that can fly instead of produce dust and fall. I've also considered using polycarbonate as an air-layer insulated battery box in an electric vehicle(slightly out of context for this thread and in many ways this forum so I won't dig into it).
What material are your skirts made of? Would you also make and use them on a 2010 Insight too?
I hope you don't think I'm stepping on your toes Dan, I'm just fired up about your car.
No problem Chris .

Fl_Fyr_Fytr beat me to it. U can check out that link for pics on pages 1 and 3. I'll update it when i can. I'm happy on the way they came out and i actually like the looks of them on my car.
They are made out of coroplast (sign material) with a beam going across the wheel well so they don't touch the wheels. Rear wheel skirts may or may not make a difference on the I2 because of the way the car is designed. Also, Honda may have done away with them because a lotta people don't like the way they look. I would definitely try them out though when i get one to see for myself.
