Default Trying to reach management!!!

I just received the following post. It is the third time in the last two weeks that I have received a post that had nothing to do with Insights and was supposedly on a thread at InsightCentral. But when I go to InsightCentral I find the message is not there at all.
Apparently this is a new way of spamming where they hijack a thread but do it only, directly, to the members of the thread. Probably getting the addresses from InsightCentrals databank for thread subscriptions.
The message below is NOT on the thread even though the header says it is.

Jim

I've never seen that type of spam before.

Normal Spam threads or posts are deleted very quickly on here by myself, Cobb and Eli

I assume you have sent it to the board super admins for attention.

Send a PM to "admin" and send a report via the "Contact us" button at bottom of each page.

You may also want to remove the links from your repost of that spam, as it's adding to their link-spamming Google PageRank gaming ability.

Those links were in THEIR SPAM. I didnt add those. That is, verbatim, what I received, so they already have those!!! I have received three messages like that each on a different thread, and none on any other of over 100 lists I belong to, only on the Insight Central list. So it appears to be a weakness of this forum that they are exploiting.

No, I didnt send it to anyone else, because I couldnt find any links on the home page to get to the list administration.

Thanks for reporting that. We are pretty quick on deleting those type of posts and or responses.

One of the new trends I have notice is you get a fake official email and all the links lead to a Viagra site.

I dont think this is something you can just "delete" since I think the messages are posted from the spammer directly to the individual. using the "subscribe list" of the thread and using a fake IC background. Otherwise I dont see how they could change the link names while the page looks normal.. While the REAL thread does NOT show that message on it.

The trick will be to find out how they are getting the "subscribe list" from the website.

Sorry, I think you misunderstood what I meant.

The link spammers try to game the PageRank system by putting links back to their pages in as many places as possible surrounded by keywords they want their spam page to come up on.

So when you include their links in this thread talking about it, surround by their keywords, you are actually helping them achieve that goal by creating yet another page linking back to their content, which Google will see, index, and take into account.

So you should really delete those links from your posting above.

Sam

I think that you all over over thinking what happened. I got the same messages early this morning. Here is what happens:

If you post a reply to any thread and you have the "thread subscription" set to any type of email notification (in the additional options section), you will receive an email when ANYONE replies (including someone who recently registered to the forum soley for the intent of sending SPAM to the forum).

It was 3:40 in the morning when this spammer did their thing and IC sent out emails to forum members who replied to the thread at one point or another (if they have it set to do so).

By the time Jim saw his emails, some moderator already deleted the spam from threads in question but they can not stop you from getting an email that you subscribed to for a thread.

Just like if someone replies to a thread, submits their posts then thinks twice about what they typed and performs an edit seconds later, people that have subscribed to that thread will get an email that contains what was originally posted (it will not contain what was changed later on with edit). So people, choose your words carefully because you can't take back (with an edit) what was already submitted originally

For example, I just went back and performed an edit. A portion of the last paragraph was removed and this paragraph was added. If you all check your email, you will not see this paragraph but will see what I removed in the last paragraph.

Hope that helps explain things,

That makes perfect sense Joe. Well spotted.
I never use the e-mail notification thing on here I have to say, so I have never encountered this issue.
