Default Anyone with First Gen CRX ?

I just purchased a 1984 Honda CRX DX with the 1.5L engine and automatic transmission. This is a car that I have always wanted. I wish it were the 1.3 HF model instead, but I couldn't pass up this 84,000 mile one owner ALL-ORIGINAL car. Even the wheels and cassette stereo are original.

I absolutely love driving it.

Anyone else own a Gen 1 CRX?
Are there any exclusive CRX forums you would recommend?

I use to own a 1985 CRX 1.3 HF and enjoyed driving it as much as it sounds like you do. I averaged 44 mpg over a 144,000 miles. I sold it many years ago and regretted letting it go. I was searching for one when I purchased my Insight this summer. You don't see many of them. A friend of mine in Denver recently sold his with over 400,000 miles on it. So they can have a good long life similar to our Insights.

I use to visit this forum a while back but not much activity: CRX Community

An 84 crx hf was my first car, perfect for a kid just out of high-school. Sold it long ago, I also had a 89 crx hf.
For the first generation CRX go to this guys

I used to own a 1984 1.5L MT CRX (purchased brand new for $7,308 ). I loved that car and drove it over 200K miles until one day I was spraying carb cleaner while running a hot engine and it ended up breaking off a piece of an intake valve causing many more problems afterwards. I repaired the valve and changed the head gasket but I ended up giving it to someone at my workplace who needed a car. Not sure what happended to it after that.

I can't remember if they made the 1.3L with an automatic. IIRC, the 1.5L was 76hp and the 1.3L was in the 60's (a couple of years later when they went to fuel injection, the HP went to 91 for the 1.5L). A 1.3L with only 60 some HP would be a bit more sluggish compared to the 1.5L auto. IIRC, the 1.5L MT model did 0-60 in 10.8 secs close to what the MT Insight does.

I loved that car and the Insight reminds me of that car at times. The weight was 1803 lbs. Those were the days before the mandates of more crash safety so an aluminum Insight weighing near the same (slightly more) would do much better in a crash.

-I love it too. In fact I enjoy it as much as my I1. (The CRX is better in rush-hour traffic, because of the auto trans.)

I am surprised at how little love the Gen 1 CRX gets compared to the Gen 2 CRX. I understand the vast improvements in the Gen 2 (suspension, power, comfort, aftermarket parts availability etc) but there are tons of Gen 1s out there for almost peanuts!

If anyone needs a shell after a catastrophic accident, the Gen 1 CRX may prove to be a great car to swap the I1 drive-train over into. Any thoughts?
