Cheap hotels in Oahu, Hawaii?

Cheapest I can find is $100 per night, which is nuts. Surely there are some rundown, seedy establishments that cost less money?

Almost all hotels on Oahu are concentrated in Waikiki, the tourist area that is very busy this time of year, so even the seedier hotels don't have to offer low rates to stay full. Hawaii is a very expensive place, so don't expect to find many bargains. Grab the $100/night room that you found if it's still available.

If you plan to visit before May and want to check out my new Mitsubishi I-MiEV, an EV that's getting about as much respect as the Insight did in 2000, let me know. I'll be at our Honolulu apartment only a mile or so from Waikiki.

Maybe I'll just sleep in my rental car. I've slept in cars in the past to reduce hotel bills. In fact on one of my jobs I slept in the car Monday through Thursday, used their exercise room to shave/shower, and then went home for the weekend. Saved about $700 a month doing that.

May I have your number? I wouldn't mind checking out the i-MIEV but really doubt I'll have time (I'm only in Oahu for the 25th).

BTW that car is ranked as the cleanest car by ACEEE.org. That's another thing it has in common with the insight, which also ranked #1 when it was being sold.

I can't believe someone wasted the time/effort to register a new ID just to post an ad. And no I'm not staying at your hotel because anything over $100/night is nuts.

I'm going to bypass the car and just focus on exploring the island. Only have one day.
