Ive heard that some cities may charge hybrid and ev owners a road tax fee since that is already added to every gallon of gas. Well, the city of Richmond has discontinued the gas tax, increased sales tax and decided to charge hybrid owners a 100 bucks a year.
Am I misunderstanding this new trend? I can understand the fuel usage as the tax is prorated per the gallon, but thats being stopped and moved to sales tax.

Our local news wwbt had a senator or congressman on who was against the hybrid tax credit for all the reasons that makes sense. He said a website to sign up a petition against it, but I cant find it. It was somethng like stopthe hybridtax.com or something.
I cant find anything online or the news website. Otherwise Id fill it out.
Calif. gets to the public through higher yearly registration fees and the gas tax also.
Just got my new registration fee notice. $95.00 for a 2001 model year car.

That's terrible, in CA our registration fee's have gone up every year for a few years to close budget gaps. But now that I am hybrid owner I now will have to pay a fee to skip emissions testing once the car is 5 years old. It was nice when I had a 10 year old Sentra and the tags for the car cost me $42.
AZ it's based on value of the vehicle: Brand new SUV wil set you back $500 a year, for my 2000 Insight I paid $80 for a two year renewal. No special taxes for hybrid vehicles.
