Default MPG trends

Hi All,

After 3 fill-ups the story so far is:

1st 44.4 MPG
2nd 45.5
3rd 46.8

total:
1193 miles, 45.6 MPG
The car thought the third trip was 48.1, so it was off by just 1.3 MPG.

Driving with the A/C seems to cut the MPG by at least 4 to 5. On drives when I don't cross the ridge on the way to work, I get more like 55+ MPG.

Still very happy!

Terry.

Wow. Really?
I haven't been able to test with constant 90+ Degree days since I got the car. In this climate, I won't ever be able to run much without AC, but to know I could be getting that much better is a little encouraging.

By cracking open the REAR windows while leaving the front windows closed, you'll find that you can get great air circulation without annoying drafts. This will increase your ability to enjoy more warm-weather days without AC.

Raynor2010Insight (Honda Insight) | Fuelly

I keep my mileage here as well as in a spreadsheet.

I've only recently begun to track fuel cost as well.

Hey that's a very cool site to track gas mileage, I may add myself sometime soon. Note that Prius' are getting 45 MPG on average, same as I2.

I too use Fuelly. I try to add notes on what sort of driving the tank was for and also what the MID claimed the tank's MPG was.

I think it will be interesting to see how my MPG changes as the temps drop out of the 90/100's later in the year.

Ive noticed I get better fuel economy with evenly dispursed weight in the car for highway driving than empty. I had a passenger, 16 2 liter bottles of coke zero from sale at walmart, 25 20 ounces bottles of muscle mike from a clearance sale at big lots and 25 16 ounce bottles of special k protein water from big lots. I had a rollator in the rear and about 100 dollars in groceries. I got up to 54 on the screen for mpg. Empty the same trip the past few days I am now down to 51mpg and it keeps going down. I am going to seriously consider lowering my car with the new springs from tanabe as I saw the same behavior in my other car and lowering it gave the same fuel economy reguardless of load. I guess wind resistance is more than rolling resistance with the increased load?

Hmm, interesting

When the suspension was 'low', was the car level? or was the nose or tail down?

The undersides of these cars is pretty aerodymically 'dirty', so my suspicion is that lowering the front slightly would allow some smoothing of flow.....

Yes, When I posted into the blue, I threw all my sodas in the truck area and it caused me to be in the blue down to 50mph on my routine trip. This time I put the lightest in the rear, the rollator and all the stuff in the floor area of the back seat and seat it self.

Nothing like getting zero calories cola for 58 cents a 2 liter bottle.
