In the Thread "MPG trends", jraynor introduced Fuelly, a site to keep track of the mileage. It's a funny easy site, but also gives a good idea of the real Mpg cars can get.
There is not too many Insight registered... much more Prius... I was curious to see what was the real delta between the 2 cars, not just EPA numbers, but with such few car registered, it's difficult to have a decent average.
May be this thread can revive interest in posting Mpg. All welcome to register on Fuelly.com

Seems it's between you and me jraynor Stella is unchallengeable for me with my current driving route to go to work and there is no way I will go under 50Mpg with my I2... pride oblige
Hopefully, other 50+ Mpg I2 owner will register. This would give a good trend indicator for those interested to purchase an I2 for it's possible Mpg.
I think there is quite a range of possible MPG with the car ranging from the 30s to 60s depending of driving conditions and how much you want to micro manage the accelerator.
So far, I am extremely pleased with the mileage and MPG numbers. I need to find out what Stella is doing, damn 70! So far, I've driven the car "stock", no mods, tire pressure increase etc. In the future, probably will add some of those to the mix in the quest for even higher MPG. The only thing I have really done is change the way I drive (slower, more aware of road condition, aware of future stops, slow downs, costing, etc.). The other part is monitoring the gauges (MID) and making micro adjustments (sometimes just the slightest pressure increase/decrease can make a huge difference in MPG) to the gas pedal. It takes a little work, but I find that is one of the "fun" (addicting) aspects of the car.
For those that have or are going to start using fuelly... please include your state, at least, in the location on your profile.
I, and probably others, would love to have some idea of how local climates are affecting the MPG. I am in the mid-40 MPG group... and personally attribute it to upper 90s temps and ridiculous high humidity. I am hoping that, as the sweltering southern heat/humidity drops this fall, I can climb into the 50+ club. Seeing what people in cooler climates are getting will help me figure out if it is just my heavy foot or just the climate here.
I'm on Fuelly under Buglermcd. However, my wife does most of the driving in the I2. She commutes on highways, and normally does the speed limit. Usually when I drive, on the weekends, I push the numbers up. I try much harder to hyper-mile and can get at least 5 mpg better than her.
Our average now is something like 48-49. But that's in NC with the sweltering heat.

I signed-up at Fuelly and transfered my data from gasbuddy.com fuel book. You can see my data at
I see he runs on high octane gas. With my previous car, I saw a slight increase of MPG running on high octane. I think I will test the real MPG effect on the I2
Otherwise, is Greendriver (Stella owner) known on the InsightCentral ? I couldn't find any communication route on fuelly...
And also, welcome in the club MovieMike ! So close to breaking in the 50MPG zone !
