Talking I broke 50 mpg in normal driving!

I just filled up today and was very nervous when I had to drive home from Chapel Hill with my tank so empty!

Here are the facts:

digital screen on my Insight: 51.9 MPG

Miles driven: 507.1
Gallons put in (till auto-shutoff): 10.0 gallons
MPG = 50.71 mpg

look I'm not bragging, I just want to tell you that something is kicking in here.

My Insight and me are starting to "bond". I definitely feel a relationship with her. Oops - I called it a "her". LOL! I think I'm really starting to appreciate this sweet little car.

Let me tell you what's so amazing about this tank. This past week includes the 4th of July weekend when I had relatives from out of town who I tried my best to entertain.

First thing I did was drive us (3 passengers and driver) around Jamestown and show them the historical sights and attractions. Then I drove us up to Pilot Mountain State Park which includes an ascent up to ~1000 feet. I had to put it in "S" with the a/c running and 4 occupants in that long climb!

Later that evening I took my guests to a 4th of July event that included an outdoor orchestra concert and music during the fireworks display to the 1812 Overture and marches by Sousa! As you can imagine, the traffic getting out of the parking lot and home was horrendous! Then I had 5 days of commuting to work and other miscellaneous trips around town for various errands, etc. This car is returning 50.7 mpg! I admit that I had to floor it a couple of times and I am learning to use the digital screen a lot better now.

I will say that I have bumped tire pressure up to 42 front / 40 rear. I will also say that one of the comments of my guests was that (under normal driving) the Insight is an extremely quiet car! It's true. The engine is almost silent. The transmission and electric motor add very little noise to the experience. The tires and road noise are the most prominent.

But my guests commented that the Insight was one of the quietest cars they've ridden in (including Cadillacs!).

Just wanted to share my 4th of July Insight experience.

I love this car!

Getting 50 mpg after going up Pilot Mountain, and in stop and go traffic just tells you that you would be doing even better if you didn't have to drive through those conditions!

Cool!

I drive this car like any other I've owned (except the G coupe - that I drove hard)...I don't look at the leaves and I turned off the color change blue/green thing...and I'm getting from 47-51 mpg on the MID - 45-50 in real calculation.

So far I'm saving about $80-$120 a month on gas compared to my Pilot, which was lucky to get 20-21 mpg.

I've averaged 52MPG this week doing my normal commuting. I'm getting good at letting off the gas, coasting, then slightly hitting the gas to let the electric assist help me out. Plus, I have left work after rain ever day this week and haven't used the AC!

I drove home from Key West last weekend and averaged 59MPG through the keys, from Key West to Miami. It went down to about 45MPG when I hit the highway at 70MPH, though.

I've gotten my lifetime MPG (just the screen, not calculated manually) almost up to 50. I'm afraid I'm going to kill it though with the a/c this summer (yeah, for non-New Englanders, there have only been a few days we've needed it so far). Although who knows, maybe summer will never fully get here!

In the last 760 miles I have averaged 46.7 mpg.

I hate to make excuses because 46.7 is still fantastic (Suck on that Consumer Reports!) but... I accidentally put 1.2 gallons of E85 in it when putting in the last tank. Granted that's not a lot of fuel but considering E85 tends to get 30% less mpg than regular gas I'm sure it made a difference.

In town I am almost always hovering right around 60 mpg. On the highway it is closer to 45-50. I must need to find some highway mpg tricks.

Is that your total mileage? Because at a certain point, possibly around 2,000 miles, my car seemed to get much better mpgs. Or possibly I just at that point had figured out how to drive it better
On my daily commute, I get close to 60 mpg each way, so my overall has slowly climbed from 44 up to 49.5. Alllllmost 50.

We have about 1350 miles on it. I reset the trip computer once I was starting to get better at achieving higher mog. During the last 788 miles I've averaged exactly 47 mpg.

My best was on 25 Jun after 211 miles of my normal commute: 51.07, measured using '3 clicks after auto shutoff'. My overall lifetime average over 6,300+miles is 43.09. Worst was the delivery tank= 38.2
