I agree - The 72 figure would have been a lot more meaningful if we could have seen the trip reading. Maybe one could pull that off if they went down a long mountain road that had a 10mi+ descent.

As a whole we question fuel economy readings that lack the trip reading for that run. Even then as pointed out, a good down grade run can peak it at 150.
My 10 miles at 79.5mpg could not of been done in real world driving. I was glad I had plenty of empty back roads.

Since you shifted into Park, the engine probably canceled Auto Stop (when you shifted into Reverse on the way)-- the idling started eating away at your (impressive) MPGs. If you had kept it in Neutral with the brake pedal pressed, or turned off the engine without shifting, it wouldn't have dropped, I think.

I stopped looking at the trip computer long time ago, it is worthless never shows a correct mpg. When I first bought the Insight I was excited seeing 49 or 51 mpg, but after calculating my own mpg at the fill up I learned that I am getting 45 mpg at best and with normal driving that is 70+ mph I am getting 42mpg. I am still happy with my Insight though I used to spend $200 a month on fuel now I spend $80 so I am happy camper.

I live about 70 miles away from my kids. On trip to get them and back it's roughly 140 miles pretty much 99% freeway driving. Over the 140 miles i spend about 100 miles doing 70-75mph and 40 miles at 55mph i'm getting around 55MPG. Everyday driving city/hwy i'm getting in the neighborhood of 47MPG.

I'm with Kombi for sure. The display is usually 5-7MPG high. I don't bother with it anymore. Just calculate your MPG at the pump for a more accurate number.

Very happy with my I2. I would buy a 2nd one if my wife and I didn't work at the same place.
