Default Econ Off - First Tank Results

I finished the first tank with econ off.

Results: 524 miles at 9.493 gallons for MPG of 55.2. Full results at Fuelly.com.

I am on my second tank and right now the MID is at 64.9 for about 90 miles in (no in town driving so far).

For the first tank, that includes wife driving around town for 50+ miles at a MID reading of 41.

Observations:

Car acts more like a normal car with it off. It feels like less regen is happening when foot is taken off gas. I am not able to determine if less assist is happening and assist gauge is hard to get a real number (no numeric read out).

From a fuel economy prospective the only difference was wife's in town driving yielded worse MPG.

So IMHO, econ mode serves as a training or conditioning device. It can also be employed on less efficient drivers to yield somewhat better results. For fuel efficient drivers, it can probably be turned off.

That's what I've felt, too, when I have ECO off.

Great job! Fabulous economy!

I bought my car last Friday and have been using the ECON Mode only because as you stated I am a horrible driver when it comes to efficiency having driven V8's my who life. So far I am enjoying the 42+ MPG I am getting so far but I hope to get better with time as I learn how to drive a Hybrid.

I really like that you can choose levels of restriction and efficiency and performance.
In the opinion of the group is it ok to flip that Econ button on and off while driving ?
Because I nearly got clipped making a left out of a parking lot onto a busy street,
and that was the first thing I did to get out of their way. It gets faster.

I get annoyed in town sometimes when the car doesn't auto-stop with ECON off.

I've been pushing ECON to off at bottoms of hills at low speed, to get that little burst of power. I then throttle back to 2,000 rpm (better mpg) and hold till to top of hill. I then push ECON on for higher "gear" selection / better mpg / faster regen on the following down grade.

Today I've begun to experiment with adding a shift into "S" mode during the climb, while still seeking to hold 2000 rpm. I'm thinking the lower "gear" ratio / CVT "speed" will give me a slight mechanical effeciency improvement.
