well.. thought i'd post and see if anyone else has seen an increase of mpg after getting over 3k miles or more on their I2.. for the first 2k+ miles.. i have been averaging 46mpg total from the time i bought my I2 (my B trip counter is never reset its over 3k now).. my A trip counter is set to reset after each refill of gas.. this week i had to make a commute of more then 4 hrs each day.. about 250+ miles each day... for a total of about 750 miles.. it had some up and down hills.. but it was half on straight flat 2 lane roads then the other half on the highway with speed limit at 60mph and i roughly kept that speed unless it was downhill and i let the I2 carry me down as fast as it could.. sometimes over 75mph.. while still maintaining 100mpg on the MID then slowly letting the speed come back down to 60mph on the way back up.. this also included about 20 miles of in city driving.. stop and go.. morning and afternoon rush hour traffic.. etc.. so anyways back on topic.. i have been watching my gas meter as well.. everytime it has hit over 250miles before it hits half a tank after each refill.. i know this isnt 100% accurate but it still gives me an indication that im hitting around 50mpg avg hopefully.. so i go over 494 miles before i go ahead and stop to get gas.. i still had a few bars left in the gas meter.. after filling up to click like i always do.. i do my math.. and its comes out to 52.3 mpg.. while my A trip counter registers 54 mpg.. i think im getting better at driving the I2 and i feel the I2 has been getting better and better mpg averages.. i did some driving in rush hour traffic yesterday for about 25 miles.. my avg was over 65mpg.. (i had just got a fill up of gas).. i maintained that avg until i started back on the hwy and it slowly came down.. i kept 60mpg almost all the way until i hit rush hour traffic on the hwy and had to slow down to 40mph and then pass a few people.. i hate when people pull in front of you without any blinkers especially when you are trying to be a safe driver and keep a safe distance between you and the driver in front of you... so anyways.. when i got home my trip A avg was around 55.6mpg.. and i checked my trip B counter (the one i never reset) and its at 48.9 now.. sweet.. im half way on the 2nd trophy..
anyone else have any similar experiences after getting close to 3k miles on your I2?
i have a few pics.. i'll have to get them off the camera tonight and post..
I also felt the MPG were getting better after 1K & 3K. I think there is 2 reasons though.
1- The engine get its fit and adjustment, which improve MPG
2- We are getting better at driving the I2 I think this is a bigger factor in MPG improvement. We have seen tricks and techniques to help, like the videos from Cobb & J and many of us get better and better "feel of the accel pedal". In my case, I thought I was already getting good MPG at 54-55mpg (MID reading), but during the vacations, I took a very long drive and got some hypermiling techniques from a friend. I now pushed the I2 over 61mpg (MID reading) for the past 2 tanks. I put this 5-7 mpg improvement on driving techniques, not on the I2 engine getting better anymore.
But overall, whatever the reason, you are right, the MPG improves after 3K

I've been getting similar numbers with similar driving style.
My overall mpg is lower (52 on MID, 50 mpg actual) due to cooler temps and short trips in a hilly suburban area. This includes increasing tires pressures to 36 psi, which has helped improve overall mpg alot ...and to the above numbers. I have 3.5k on the odometer.

NEAT!
The color sure was a head turner when I first got the car. I added a coat of wax over the summer, which brought out the color even better. Currently with dark winter skies and a thin coat of brown dust that comes with the rain, the shine has dimmed, but its still looking gooood.

I love this color as well. I debated forever between polished metal, atomic blue, & this color. After buying it I'm very glad I chose clear sky. It seems to hide dirt well & I love the subtle green that occasionally comes out.
To stay on topic, it seemed like when I hit 1,000 miles the engine was a little more powerful. But this could be the weather & me learning how to drive.

Yes. It has many lovely subtlely different colors in various lighting conditions.

As the engine breaks in, its power and mpg get better. I noticed mpg improvements at around 2k, again at around 4k, and suprisingly once again just after 5k. Currently at 5.2k and getting some of the best mpg ever with little change in driving technique, on trips around Coos Bay or over to the beach.

Just joined the Insight Forum today, reading some threads about MPG getting better with more miles. I am just over3500 and averaging 48-50. Live in Denver area and some mountain roads last weekend took MPG down a bit of course, bu overall, getting improving numbers. As someone said, learning how to drive the Insight helps. Anyway, just thought I would throw my 2 cents in! Love the car!

Hello and welcome aboard!
Looks like you are getting pretty good mpg! Many who post here have their mpg numbers detailed at Fuelly | Share and Compare Your MPG. Might be worth a look see, note also that many have recorded the mpg reported by the MID, allowing for a comparison with actual mpg based on odometer and gas pump figures.
Enjoy
