I found this funny, but interesting. As there is a lot of posts about Mobil 1, Amsoil, etc, etc recently, one might be interested to see what it can impact to use "advanced oil". The only thing the calculator does not do, is to compare with what. If I'm on Amsoil 0W20 or even Honda "no one knows syntetic or not" 0W20, which are already using high molybdenum, I doubt I will get these savings. The calculator might compare to a very low rated oil...
Any good synthetic oil (like Mobil 1 or Amsoil), should also allow you to change oil less often, using less total oil to run your car (assuming the maintenance minder actually monitors oil condition, rather than just tracking mileage).
Since I bought my Insight for the purpose of using less gasoline to meet my transportation needs, the concept of also using less lubricating oil is appealing. If I had just been trying to minimize cost (given today's gasoline prices), I would have purchased a Fit, not an Insight.

Based on a comparison versus those grades most commonly used and a potential 2% fuel economy improvement. Actual savings are dependent upon vehicle/engine type, outside temperature, driving conditions and your current engine oil viscosity.
I'd take a stab that they are comparing 5w30 to 0w20 when they make their 2 percent difference. The difference from using a 0w20 synthetic versus a 5w30 conventional oil are going to be more than a 2 percent difference during the winter in sub-zero weather, but I figure the 2 percent difference is pretty close to being accurate in the summer. Synthetic oil has removed engine whine from the first few minutes for two of the cars I've driven when it's colder than -20f outside. I've poured a conventional 5w30 at -30f into an engine to top off once, the wind caught it and it flows thick. A synthetic 5w30 put into my freezer set to -20f and a conventional in the same conditions, shake the bottle and the difference is dramatic. Better protection when cold when using the same viscosity rating due to the properties of synthetic oil.
Mobil had rebate offers twice this year. I bought 20qts of Mobil 1 0w/20 for $4.25 per qt. With 8,000 mile change intervals that will last me 64,000 miles, a little over two years.
The calculator just figures a 2% savings on the price of your gas for potential improvements dependent upon certain conditions. Plenty of disclaimers.
I like using a synthetic because it holds up better in adverse conditions but otherwise Consumer Reports extensive testing found the cheapest dino oil worked as well as anything in preventing engine wear. That was 1996. I'd like to see them do a new test to put all the argument to rest.
I've seen huge increases in MPG after switching to Amsoil. The thing is, you can't just do the engine. You have to do the entire drivetrain when possible... transmission, differential and when having 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, you have to do the transfer case and/or both differentials.
When it comes to an Insight, all you can do is switch from the Honda oil to Amsoil or whatever floats your boat.
When and if Amsoil ever decides to make a CVT fluid, I will be the first one in line to switch to it.
I just did that mileage calculator thing with the Mobil 1.
It said that in 7 years I would save $110 at the current gas mileage I am getting with my Insight and 15,000 miles per year. WHAT A JOKE.
At least with Amsoil I saved several hundred per year in my previous cars. I stopped using Mobil 1 years ago after seeing how they only cater to car dealers and quick lubes.
It will be quite a while until I can figure out how much Amsoil will be saving me in the Insight. I have to break the car in first and keep using Honda's oil for a while to get a good benchmark.
