Default Spark Plugs

Are the standard plugs Iridium? If not, aren't there plugs that will get better mpg than the OEM?

Yes the std. plugs are Iridum. The will last longer than a convential plug. (100,000+ miles).
A lot of the new plugs are also useing Iridum now.
Better mpg? No tests avaliable yet.

Willie

Yes, iridium plugs come as standard. They come at 3-5 times the cost of normal plugs but last for almost a lifetime, as mentioned by Willie Williford above.
Τhe hype behind the iridium-type spark plugs is that, since they are "cold-type" plugs, they will deliver better ignition of the mixture and thus better engine output resulting in better/more economical handling of fuel. That in theory, at least.
Many of my motorbike mates tried iridium plugs in a variety of bikes (1, 2, 3 and 4 cylinders) with no apparent result in overall mileage. Better throttle response in high revs-yes, better fuel consumption-no. And they seem to work better for high rev engines (12-16 valves).
