Default Engine oil burn vs blocked grill..

So just out of wonder how many of you have been indicating that the engine oil seems to be burning also have a blocked grill? I did a drive with 100% blocked (paper taped to the grill) and noticed at 5 C the coolant temp was hovering around 90 C vs my 85% blockage (all 3 pieces from the other thread), vs just the 24" piece giving 81 C.

Has anyone else who have done this long term noticed more engine oil burning and were they using an OBD-II to monitor the engine coolant?

Are you referring to consumption or damage due to over heating? I havent had any problems temp wise, but do notice a fall in temp when coasting.

Since my first oil change I have gone a few thousand over and see slight consumption, but its still golden brown.

I was thinking of consumption, but now that you brought it up damage is a real possibility too.. :-S It really seems full blockage of the lower grill is borders bringing the coolant temp to the 95 C mark easily when the external temp is above 5C (40 F).

The limited testing I've done with full blockage is rather concerning, but the side effect is even the 85% blockage I've done I'm seeing close to a .3 L / 100 KM difference, I've traveled about 4.6 L/100KM @ 112 KM (69 miles @ 51.1 MPG).

So on the other note: Have you left the duck tape on your car? If so the oil is still golden brown? Have you been monitoring the coolant temps?

Maybe I was reading it wrong, its not ok to stay at 203 f? I notice it doesnt over heat, it warms up fast and stays there unless coasting or lifted foot from petal, then the temp drops like a rock with the heat on.

I lost 100 lbs the past year and find I am getting frost bite in 60 f degree weather. I use to sweat like a pig in 40 f degree weather.

I like how warm the heat is a few miles after the blue light goes off, but man, it fades when coasting, like the ac fades when at stop lights.

I think the goal is to keep it tops below 95 C and is where the red line starts on my coolant gage and also where the oil starts to burn. I've not owned this USB device nor the I2 long enough to see what the ideal heat range is on the hottest day in the summer.

I wonder if you're the only one doing full bottom grill blockage, or if others have tried and noticed more engine oil burning, maybe you can try to remove the tape off either side of the front plate and see if you noticed the difference on your daily drive?

I'll have to work out more nerves to try when we hit below -5 C when I can feel safe on exposing the car to it to see if it makes that much of a difference on fuel. I think I'm going to stick to the bottom piece until it gets colder then place the 2 smaller pieces on again.
