Is that in reference to their 1st generation Insights?
Anyway, Owned my '11 Insight now for about two weeks, and have data from two rounds of gas (I drive +/- 100 miles per day, 75% on back country roads where I can do between 40 and 50 mph, very few stop lights & lots of hills and bends)
Round 1: 412 miles, 8.5 gallons on fill
Round 2: 420 miles, 8.9 gallons on fill
I'm seeing a real discrepancy between the dashboard trip MPG reading and my calculated one. On both of those, the dash read that I was averaging 49-ish MPG, but my math indicates that I'm closer to 46. Not a HUGE difference, but I'll be curious to see how it tracks over time.
The Dash is wrong. I am averaging about 55MPG on my car so far but I notice my dash tells me I am at 57.5MPG with 300 miles already used in my tank, my car will idle and drop to 57.2MPG. So its wrong as heck.
Mattie, are you talking about an idle stop or just an idle when it does that?
I've noticed that if my dashboard average has centered very closely around what my car thinks is my real "average" for that tank, it doesn't take much of a push to give me a big impact
Example: Last week, my average got skewed high early on in the tank. Coasting down the big hill which I live at the bottom of, I saw no impact on my reading. This week, I think the average is more balanced, and at the same trip mileage, I'm seeing a .2 mpg "bump" while coasting down the same hill.
Having said this though, I won't be shocked if, when I fill up at the same gas station again, my math indicates that I got about 3 mpg less than the dash would have me believe...
Back to your post though, I'd kill for a dash read-out of 57... Got any tips?

My Dash is between 58.5-60MPG now. The key has been to stay the speed limit and to try and use the Battery as much as I can (lightly tapping and holding the pedal.) Also, I love following trucks
