That better than me if we are talking US mpgs and I try to use hypermiling techniques! I think from the information we've shared around here what we've found is that terrain plays a big part on this. Folks in hilly areas so worst than folks in flat areas, and folks in colder areas do worst than folks in warmer areas.

Where abouts are you located? Someone near or around you might be a better comparison point.

I don't see the problem here.

You're getting better than EPA estimates in extremely cold temperatures, and your car is not even broken in. Were you wanting 90mpg?

Wait till the weather warms back up, and I would bet you'd be well over 50mpg, possibly pushing 60.

Cold weather kills your mileage, but yours is nowhere near crappy.

I'm in Seattle & it's been 50 all week. It's not 5 - 10 F anywhere in the state. Did you mean celsius?

I've been consistently getting 44. 46 is pretty good winter mileage. If you were driving in 5-10 F weather & getting 46 that is very good.

Just for clarification is this MID or self calculated mpg?

Default Not Terrible

I agree that your mpg are pretty good for that temp, at least from my perspective.

I live in New England with a very hilly commute - 80% highway / 20% city - and am getting around 48 MID mpg. It has been around 30 to 20 degrees F lately, to give you a comparison.

I've only just hit 2500 miles, and have had the car since Nov...so have no warmer temp experience to compare it to.

Anyway - overall I've been happy with the results given what I have read on this and other forums about cold weather and hybrids.

Thought I'd share for what it's worth.

From what you are saying on here. Your economy is actually pretty good. I live in the mountains of NE TN and I consistently get 5 to 5.2 L/100 km in town driving and 4 to 4.5 L/100 km highway driving. The winter has reduced it a little on the coldest days but I realise that the cold will do that for any car not just hybrids. Since you say you aren't using any hypermiling techniques, then I would venture to say you are getting very good economy with your I2. Since you live in a mildly hilly area maybe you should practice some hypermiling. It is actually quite fun at times to do some hypermiling. I just say sit back, drive your beautiful car and enjoy the game.

I would agree it is not a crappy MPG but a good one indeed.

MPG tends to be lower in cold weather and it is a well known fact.

In SoCal where weather can fluctuate vastly between day and night, I could get 50mpg during daytime and roughly 45mpg on the way back at night, assuming no change in traffic volume and driving style.

Btw, I scored an overall 49.5mpg (MID) over 8000 miles driven. Econ mode on 99% of time, with Auto A/C. The MID tends to be ~3mph higher than actual, so I am getting roughly 46.5mph in longterm which still beat the best of what EPA reports.
