13k miles on 2010 LX Insight and I'm starting to see 51mpg on the commute to work and 50.4 on the way back. 48mpg at last fillup.

I bought my EX in Nov. 2010.

Currently have about 14,000 miles. I was only getting 38-43 mpg for a long time. I changed the oil at around 11k miles. I currently get nothing less than 43 mpg. Usually average around 45 mpg but can hit upto low 50's with some very careful driving. I think the car breaks in and you'll also learn how to drive it more efficiently. One thing I notice is that your start up from a stand still will affect your mpg. I used to creep it to speed but realized that the gas engine will be the main power source and that is only efficient for high 30's mpg. I get up to speed a little quicker and try to coast it around 40-50 mph where I think my car runs most efficient. My car wont get into the 50 mpg if I drive faster than 60 mph. Keep in mind I've only got the best mpg driving on flat topography, inclines and stop and go will kill your mpg. Hope this helps as I was very disappointed at first but am quite happy now. My current tank has about 50.2 mpg on 100 miles with having to climb a large hill (made some MPG back on the downhill). Good luck

FYI - My car is bone stock and I don't use the paddle shifters yet. I've been told they may help a little also.

In looking back some things which seem to have made a difference in getting the mpg increased were;

1. More gentle acceleration. I've had to learn more restraint and patience. Currently I accelerate with traffic to 30 mph, then slow my acceleration to maintain not less then 50 mpg on the MID.
2. Max. use of Auto Stop and ev mode. A wheel alignment and increase of the the cold tire pressure to 38 psi greatly decreased tire roll resistence leading to more distance covered while in ev mode and better mpg at a steady speed.
3. Engine break-in was a factor. Mpg seemed to get better in the 12-14k area.
4. I've attained 50.1 mpg average for 20356 miles tracked. I attribute around half of the improvement, over the EPA avg. of 43 (I think), to driving style and driving strategy changes. The other half, to the wheel alignment service and tire pressure increase.

Default This is my second tank

Changes from my first tank was increase tire pressure to 40psi, I picked up about 5 mpg. My 3rd tank is looking pretty good at 53 mpg. I reached the 500 miles per tank goal.

Default improving

At about 2500 miles I finally broke the 40 mpg barrier with a 43! That was with a mix of driving conditions but almost always on hilly roads, mostly with ECON off.

WOW What a terrific improvement!

After an alignment I discovered that the steering got too light and maneuvering on the freeway in the 70-80 mph range got a little scary. So I may have given up some mpg by going from 40 down to a 38 psi setting.

(I check tire pressures around once a month. I do it first thing in the morning because I've found that the pressures can increase by 1-3 psi if checked later in the day after driving around.)

I'll even get better with time. You will also probably still change your driving style a little, and manage higher mpgs. Best tank so far is 622 miles (yes, it's highway driving...).

Best total Miles on a tank of gas.

I'm positive 650 miles is possible with the I2. For sure even more in an hypermiling contest, but in "normal" driving, 650 seems a feasible range.
