Default Green discount on NJ Turnpike

As any of you from NJ know, the tolls on the turnpike and GSP went up today. Not by some piddly 10-15% but by 50% or more.

While looking for the new toll rates, I noticed that there is a discount rate for 'GREEN' vehicles. There's not a lot of information on the site about it - because I don't think they really want it utilized - but what I did read was that vehicles qualify that make over 45MPG.

The insight is rated at 43MPG if I recall, but most of you are reporting averages better than that.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried to get the Green EZpass in NJ and what the process was? I'm about to call NJ EZ pass "customer service" tomorrow and so will find out for myself....but would love to know if anyone has prior experience in this.

The vehicle has to be rated by the EPA to get 45 miles per gallon. Insight owners are SOL.

Yes it would. I should have stated that second gen Insight owners are SOL.

this isn't really fair considering the insight consistently gets over 45 mpg's without even really doing anything to maximize fuel efficiency.
