Default UK Insight Gathering 2008

I'm just floating this for ideas, there are quite a few UK owners active on here at the moment so what does everyone think.

Shall we have a UK summer get-together somewhere this year?

Where?

Any volunteers to organise it?

I suggest middle of the country somewhere. Possibly to coincide with a car show so we could have a group entry/stand. Nice place to show the cars as well.

Hi all UK owners,

I work at the Land Rover & Jaguar research HQ at Gaydon Warwickshire, and we help fund the British Heritage Motor Museum next door. (M40 junction 12)

While large car clubs probably book it to get concessionary entry rates, or perhaps a conference room to meet in, it is a venue that is open to the public, so there is no reason why a few intrepid Insight owners cannot turn up on spec and have a look at some old British cars and mutter things like "I broke down in one of those once" or "It's biggest selling point was that it came with a "Quartic"steering wheel" I will pop in and find out what the score is.

If the numbers are likely to be in the low teens then there is a really nice quaint pub called The Falkland arms in Great Tew near Oxford that does nice Sunday roasts. The village is rather up market with thatched roofs everywhere and a smattering of Aston Martins and the like....really picture postcard stuff.

There is always The Black Country Museum, (Birmingham) that will be familiar to all those who watched Fred Dibnah's chain making exploits. It specialises in dirty messy coal and steam driven stuff (Bit like the British heritage museum) with foundry work and blacksmith artistry on display, but it does boast an on site pub and reputedly the best fish and chip shop for miles....Seemingly, it is the fact that the chips are cooked in dripping that makes all the difference.

Anyway, if someone is taking count of interested parties, then count me in.

I will get back when I have found out more about the BHMM.

Rog, Birmingham.

A gathering for UK owners in 2008 is a great idea. I have searched around the internet for a Honda Drivers Event you guys could have tagged along to but the only Honda clubs seem to be for the motorbikes. So Roger's suggestions sound good. As we have now 'lost' myself, Ed, Kenneth (khkc) and Mark Elvin, I have quickly scanned the memberlist and the following should be active UK owners:

retepsnikrep (obviously)
Dgate
jack9994
stoner
Paul Andrews
jonnoshore
Dowsingthomas
Space Panda
Sulphur Man
Lean Machine
mrlab
Dave Rowley
buffalox
Roger Crier
pepeelgordo
blackjackdavey
andynord
giavoline

I suggest someone sends them a PM to draw attention to this thread (?)

I'M in for a meet since I missed the last one at the Eco centre.
I have been to Gaydon and its a fantastic place but may detract from our own cars.

Might be nice to congregate where disbelievers might be convinced of the Hybrid concept,in other words a "show off day" for the uninitiated.
Just my oppinion.

I like the idea of a bit of evangelising at a major UK car show with an Insight UK club entry/stand. Somewhere North of the M25

That's not to say I don't like the other ideas, I'm a great fan of Fred Dibnah and quite fancy a trip to the Motor Museum, and lunch at a posh pub as well. Don't know what to do now.

I also fancy a driving convoy trip and lunch stop type event.

I'll look at a few car shows and post details.

Brand new member here. I currently have a '07 Civic Hybrid and am considering an 01 onward CVT Insight if I can find one as a second car. I'd be up for a meet if us 3rd generation hybrid owners were also welcome!!!

I'm up for this! Hopefully I will have replaced my missing & broken mirrors by the time summer arrives, as they do detract from the visual appeal of my yellow insight ...

Just joined, thought i would say hi in here, used to be a Honda nut in my not too distant youth, now stuck with diesel hatches for the commute, but looking at an insight plus something fun as an alternative Wouldnt mind looking at a couple and chatting to a few owners, so a meet would be great

Work at Gaydon too, so would be good for me

alternatively worth linking it too one of the many Jap tuning shows there are, JAE or Japfest (just missed it i think) maybe through a club, used to be a member here, good club, and know at least 1 member that still has an insight

Hi Eddy, I thought it was you who came in Studio 2 the other day as Ive heard your name mentioned as the 'tranmission guru' and I remember your surname from your Honda R feature. How you doing? Im working at Gaydon in advanced engineering packaging the LRX Hybrid. Also looking into an insight as a commuting machine as Im currently using my Integra everyday!

Cheers
