I would like to offer to organise a UK Insight Owners Day in 2011, to give 1st generation Insight drivers a chance to meet up and chat about all things Insight.
I arranged a previous Insight Owners Day back in 2005 at the Honda Institute in Colnbrook that was a good day by all accounts. Perhaps we could go there again? However I would welcome ideas on a place to meet up and/or activities we could arrange. I suggest that we meet up in May 2011 when the weather is more pleasant but before the holiday season.
In due course I will send PMs to all the UK Insight Owners I can spot on the InsightCentral Forum. Grateful for all views and suggestions from 1st gen UK owners!

Excellent idea, care to set a date, May sounds good.
I'll need to book AL asap as I work shifts 24/7.
Could we have it somewhere North of the M25 Please?
Do we want a convoy drive out? Some MPG tests? Decent roads nearby?
I think an evening meal would also be nice in a decent country pub with plenty of parking and rooms so we can stay for a P*ss up if we want. It would have to be an overnight jobbie for me anyway due to distance.
Say 150 miles north of London accessible via M1 A1 or M11 etc, should be equidistant to a good % of the group
A Hotel with a large Car park for our event. probably £90 a night or less for a group booking.
My best ever Insight driving was in the Midlands, relatively empty roads etc.
Staying at Sandiacre near Derby for a week of Software training, most evenings went like this, back to Hotel, shower/shave, Club sandwich in the restaurant then out in the Insight by 6pm, back by 9pm 100+ miles on the trip meter nearly always 100+ mpg.
Best trip Sandiacre to Blyth cross-country 105 mpg outwards, no delays/traffic jams just pleasant hassle free driving.
Yes, im up for that .Sadly a congenital lack of imagination and intelligence prevents me from making any constructive suggestions for the meet, though i do think that E27006 is on the money for the location and a stopover in a hotel would make the whole thing more relaxing and enjoyable . I wont have much to contribute on technical matters, but on the plus side im a vegetarian and cant drink more than one small bottle of cider without falling over, so at least you will have someone to take the piss out of .
Looking forward to meeting you all .

I have had a quick look around the internet for possible meet locations in May and would like to suggest these two:
The Rally Show, Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire - Sat / Sun 14 & 15 May http://www.motoringevents.net/20313-...Show_2011.html
Ticket prices up to 31 December are £20 for a two day pass for car club exhibitors, compared to £25 for the public.
The Rally Show might be a good one, especially if we could persuade Paul Andrews to take part. The Glossop Car Show would be much gentler paced and not exactly high tech but we could arrange to have our own little corner. Grateful for views please!
P.S. Thanks for your reply bluesunbeam! LMAO

Hard choices. I note the derbyshire event only had 76 cars last year not exactly going to be heaving. Agreed if Paul is willing to bring the rally car then the rally car show looks quite interesting, and bound to be packed so we will be fielding lots of questions over two days and doing demo drives. Accomodation might be difficult in the Area.
Is that what we want or do we want our own gentle get together away from other events? We might get bored talking Insights after the first two hours The big event certainly will have other attractions. Hmm
I was expecting more people to reply to this thread by now Citrus Smoothie . I rarely look at this section of the forum and only noticed the thread because i was using the search facility for something else with UK in the title . Is it worth posting a thread in the 1st Gen Discussion section to direct folk to this thread ? Apologies if this is a pointless post - i am quite new to websites , forums etc.
Bluesunbeam, I know what you mean, but bear in mind the limited number of UK Insight drivers and the even more limited number of UK owners on the Forum. Having organised these things before, I know that we will be very lucky to get twenty Insights at the Owners Day and we would still be doing well to get a dozen.
When we have worked out the date & location I will PM all those UK owners I can spot on the Forum and invite them to come along.
My preference is for the charitable Glossop Show in Derbyshire - in these austere times, the £3 entry fee might appeal to owners more and it is centrally located in the UK. We could arrange to have our own corner at this event and make a bigger splash in a smaller pond. The Rally show might be a bit of a 'petrol-head' event and perhaps not suitable for all Insight owners, although it would make sense if Paul was taking part in the action.
Let's wait until the New Year for more views and start writing out then.

Let me know who you spot and I may be able to bulk PM them, might be able to serach for members based on location I'll have a look at the admin functions. Derbyshire sounds good to me certainly a lot nearer us Oppp North
