Our first Houston meet was great. We have planned to attend the Houston Coffee and Cars meeting on the 8th together. There will be many other owners showcasing their exotic cars, we can represent the Gen1 Insights, since these are not really ordinary cars either.
Date: January 8th (Saturday)
Time: 8am-10am (but lets plan to arrive much earlier like 6-7am to get good spots together)
Place: Marq-E Center Houston
7620 Katy Freeway Houston, TX 77055 Google Maps
Afterwards (around 10-11am) we have planned to head to the Pearland Town-center to Checkout and Test Drive the Nissan Leaf EV.
I'll be there. Hope the weather holds up. I've also scheduled a Leaf test drive at 11:30, so maybe we can all convoy to the Nissan dealership. That would be cool!

Cool event, looks like you guys had plenty of fun. Crazy to see all of these high performance cars take off and then have Insights with the smallest engines leave the biggest marks.
Wow, I just realized, I've never tried to do a burnout with my car. I just figured that our cars wouldn't but I've never tried, I'll have to give it a shot when I have the stock tires on and there isn't snow all over in Minnesota, which is where I am.
I also didn't know that our exhausts are this quiet from the outside with the throttle opened up.

I always wonder if people are cheering/laughing with us, or at us... Either way, its fun to know these little cars always bring a smile to people who see them.

Ya know, I've often wondered that very same thing. Then again I could really care less cause even after almost 2 years, I'll turn around when I'm walking away from her and still get a grin on my face Then there's the fact that I still get better MPGs then 99.9% of the cars out there, lol.
I've noticed that some ppl are just haters...Just how it is and they'll never change. Take the car show for instance...I over heard one guy (which wasn't hard seeing as he was practically yelling it) saying "Look at this, we have all these nice cars out here, Ferraris, Porsches and Lambos and they bring those pieces of shit out here". It pissed me off at first but then I thought, you know what, this car is exactly what I need and I like it, and that's all that matters. Although I did want to go up to him and say "Yeah, well your baby's ugly" lol

The perception of performance is a powerful feeling, if not emotional on either side of the picture.
Fuel efficiency is a form of performance, getting the absolute most out of every little bit of fuel.
Their idea of performance is to get the most power out of the smallest amount of space and pack it into the most attractive body with engine sound tuned to the ears, feeling inside the car that includes the direct feel of the roar. They want that, we want something different. I've talked to many car guys who have approached me from their large classic v8 vehicles and discuss my car. I think some laugh with nervous agreement that they like it but it's not the image they are used to, but yes, there are some that don't recognize fuel efficiency as performance at all and they don't see a quiet, aerodynamic, lightweight aluminum and composite body that is the most efficient gasoline setup ever sold here as being what they consider performance. I've never had a single person approach me to ask questions about my car until I bought an Insight, I seriously never believed it until it happened multiple times. Stuff as simple as, "Whoa, what kind of gas mileage do you get?" and "So how much are you putting in your tank and how far did it take you?" seem to be fun questions to answer and bring in good explanations of the car. The person who asked abut how much am I putting in was excited when I told him I went 630.5 miles to a tank and had fuel leftover, when I told him the gallons and cost, he immediately went from speaking in a cautiously spectacle manner to asking me how much it would cost to buy one as he filled his SUV with over 50 bucks of gas off of what was probably 250 miles or less.
Everyone has their opinion and preferences though, doesn't bother me too much that others have different preferences and perceptions.
