As we continue to develop plans for the May 18 meetup, I thought I'd mention that the Carlisle Import & Kit Nationals is being held 75 miles away from our site, in Carlisle, PA. This is a pretty big deal and thousands of cool imports meet up here. However last year I saw ZERO Insights. Lots of cool Volvos, MGs, Fiats, Saabs, TVRs, Cobras, Peugeots, and Japanese cars, but not one Gen1 Insight. There is a sweet swap meet/garage sale area, where you can find some rare parts. There is also a for sale corral, where there were many underpriced gems. I am planning on attending on the 19th of May.

Who wants to have their cake and eat it too? We have the meet on the 18th, then convoy to Carlisle in the AM? Or we can drive up there at night and spend the night up there. It is pretty nice country up there: reminds me of Tuscany with the rolling hills, and fruit orchards everywhere.

I like this plan too The only problem I see is that last year only one person made arrangements to stay over on Saturday night. So it looked to me like folks voted with their feet for a one day event. Mike Dabrowski once remarked to me that the Insight bunch are for doing everything on the cheap and I think I agree. That would include renting motel rooms. I can make the plan work for myself and I can host two other guys Saturday night, in a common room in my motorhome in Mt. Airy, 8 miles from Frederick. That offer comes with coffee and cereal in the mornings. Two guys could also rent a common room and get the cost down some.
When no one commented early on about variation from last years plan I reserved the picnic shelter. These things must be done with some advanced planning. I suppose I could I canceled the shelter if the consensus was to drop Saturday and just have a rally to Carlisle. Or, we could meet at the shelter, have doughnuts and coffee and then rally to Carlisle for a one day event. I have no problem doing that either, but I think we need to get the votes in. Not everyone is going to be satisfied. The more complicted it gets, the fewer who are satisfied.
And what do we do if we have a one day affair on either day and it rains? Rainy days tend to discourage attendance, so we would likely have lots of no shows. The park shelter at least allows us to have a one day event regardless of weather. Last year it really paid off!
BTW, Carlisle is by my calculations 68 miles farther north from Frederick. Given the traffic in the two little towns, particularly on show day, We would probably need 2 hours point-to-point. It is very pretty countryside and good weather would make for a very enjoyable event.
I do think that mixing it up some in terms of format and schedule does add interest, but don't underestimate the difficulty of gathering logistics. The impression I got last year was makeing a primary day on Saturday and then putting the added value on Sunday, which few attended, was a workable plan. The problem one gets into is that not everyone will agree and some will bolt if it gets too complicated or costly. Putting the added value on Sunday allows those who want a one day event to have flexibility.
We'll give this a few weeks for chat, we have the time, then I'll put up a pole on a new thread to see just what folks are willing to commit to doing. With a new thread and pole, we can have a "clean" look at what folks really are willing to commit to doing. I am also going to hit up the Mid-Atlantic e-mail list to get the feelings and thoughts of those who don"t read this thread.
I wouldn't mind going to both. The question is where do I stay overnight? In MD or PA?
Not everyone that owns an Insight is cheap. I just like saving money wherever I can. Especially on energy costs. But I would rather stay at a hotel then a motel, even though it's a little more expensive.

Hi Russ,
Great to hear that you might be coming again. Thurmont, MD is about half way between. Motels might be a bit more reasonable than in Frederick itself. Another option would be to take one night in Frederick and another up near Carlisle. That would save you a bit of driving, but you may not favor changing motels each night. All kinda a matter of personal taste. I remind you that the Carlisle thing is treated as a "value added" and will not directly be a part of the Insight event, but the day is free for all to attend. At this point the Insight event is pretty firmly on. Gotta get a 2013 thread and a poll started quick because folks are trying to make plans. Next few days
I'm hoping to attend. My daughter's birthday is a few days prior, and my anniversary is a few days after. So that weekend might be tight, but if I start lobbying now for celebrating other times, I might be fine. Add me to the list.

Welcome, hope you can make it!
You can keep the time demand down a bit by just attending on saturday.
PM me with your e-mail address, if you will. That way I can be assured of reaching you and all the rest.
