Yesterday I was contacted by the local Minneapolis ABC station for a story on hypermiling.
They ended up riding with me on the way home from work, and the following segment appeared on the 10 o'clock news:
100 miles per gallon? Learn how to become a hypermiler
http://kstp.com/article/stories/S473253.shtml
I didn't have time to explain the techniques in as much detail as I wanted, but I managed to eke out 98.2 MPG for them on my commute home. That's the best I could do with 50lbs of camera equipment in the passenger seat and a sweltering camera man who insisted on rolling down the windows :-P It was also kind of funny; all the stuff with me getting in and out of the car and driving by was more or less staged.
The media coverage on Wayne Gerdes, Mike Dobrowski, and the like is definitely a hard act to follow

But I hope my segment offered a little peek into hypermiling for those not in the know, and I'm glad they didn't try to spin it into something negative (too unsafe, etc).
