Other than the usual answers we get about making playlists and using smaller iPods, does anyone know how to make the I2 NOT take control of the iPod, yet remained hooked into the system. It would be super if I could keep the system hooked on the car, but control what I'm playing through the iPod. I have a non-nav EX and spinning the radio knob is actually giving me something like a sports-related injury turning, turning, turning just to get past the first few letters of the alphabet.

I don't want to make tons of playlists because then I'll be spinning through playlists. Plus I like hitting stuff every once in a while I've never heard.

I wonder if Honda would provide some sort of software update if they knew people were actually getting muscle injuries from the way the interface works. Just a thought.

Yep - get an adapter cable and plug it into the mini pin AUX input ...

OK, lemme clarify that I still want to use the actual USB cable because 1) it's hidden in the center console and 2) it charges the system. Sure the AUX cable is a solution, but it's yet another wire hanging out there and it becomes two if you need to charge the iPod as well. So my question refined if "Does anyone know how to keep the I2 from commandeering the iPod when plugged into the USB slot?"

This isn't as helpful as I wish I could be but here is the pin out for the iPod connector itself: http://www.qables.com/shop/images/pdf/ipodpinout.pdf

You'll need to find a cable that only connects pins 1-4 and 18.

I'm on the lookout for such a cable for you...

Does the random function only play random songs over the entire usb drive? I tried it on a trip and I couldn't get it to play randomly just in 1 folder. And it would also keep going back to the same songs.

If you press the Random button 3 times it cycles from RDM (all songs all folders randomly, F-RDM (songs in one selected folder random), and off (normal linear play).

I ran into some problems with the other solutions posted here so I wrote up some directions for correcting the sort order that will work on any version of Windows and with FAT16 or 32 drives:
