Default Simplest, most inexpensive way to improve ride quality?

Besides lowering the Tire PSI, what is the simplest way to improve the ride of the insight? Will changing the shocks help much?

Smile New Tires!

Admit it. The stock Dunlops suck. They might be LRR, but they're noisy, poor handling and poor ride quality.

I replaced mine with Yokohama AVID Envigors in the same size and it is a noticeably better ride, quieter and much better wet and dry traction.

Yes the mileage dropped a bit. My lifetime average is now 49.7 mpg versus 50.3 mpg, but I can handle that. Part of the drop is also due to the heavy use of a/c this summer.

So the tires are the main reason for the harsh ride?

Other than switching tires you can play with tire pressure. Next to different tires would be shocks.

Right now I'm running 40psi because the tires seem too mushy at the recommended 33psi. That and I think I'm getting one to two more MPG's with 40psi.

Personally, I think the ride quality is fine. I run my tires at the recommended psi.

I will admit though that Yokahama tires are good tires and give a much better ride. I had Continental tires on my other vehicle, Chrysler 300 C, and they wore out at 14,000 miles I replaced them with Yokahama tires and the ride and handling greatly improved.

.
What kind of MPG are you averaging per tank; running 33psi?

I reduced my PSI to 39 and ride quality has improved.

I am going to need 2 tires in a month or two. I am considering the choke-yo-mamas too. The reviews and price looks great.

Smile choke-yo-mamas!

Cobb,

The best thing about the Yokohamas I found was the wet and dry handling. I have made some maneuvers on wet roads and they stuck so much better than the Dunlops. I feel very safe driving on these tires. Dry handling too, especially when you have to stop suddenly on bumpy pavement.

Thanks. I hadnt had any issues other than the strange gyration when driving on the road when its wet with cruse control on and the day I did a panic stop at 80mph when the contents of a guys utility trailer flew out across my lane. I went from 80-50 in a second or two and my passenger said if that happened to him he would be on the shoulder on the phone with his insurance comapny. I felt the petal vibrate the brief time I pressed it, but I was able to steer.

I had considered the llr and fuel max, but my auto friends say thats a technical way of saying they are cheating you by selling you less grippy tires.

My friend in VA Beach made fun of their name. Then again he uses those Chineese Chin tires on his car.
