My drivers side light intermittently would not fire up. when it did, it took longer than the passenger side to reach full brightness. So I checked connections, applied di electric grease to all connections and swapped locations of bulbs. The problem moved to my passenger side. I called DDM and they said I probably have a bad bulb and are sending me replacements.
However, I don't think that's the entire problem.
Now I either get the intermittent problem on the passenger side and or BOTH bulbs don't initially fire up. Now the misfires occur under the following circumstances.
1) When the ballasts haven't been used in several hours.(are cold) When things warm up, they fire up 100%. The kid at DDM said temperature has no effect on the ballasts. I'm by no means an expert but have my doubts.
2) When I start the car THEN turn on the lights. If I turn on the lights FIRST they seem to fire up every time.
For number 2, I speculate the cause may be the DRL's tapping power; so I disabled the DRLs by removing the 7.5A fuse. I'll see what effect that has.
Every time I call DDM customer service, I get some doofy kid that sounds unsure of himself and am not confident in the advice they are giving me.
I'm hoping to get better advice on here.
BTW, bumping the two headlamp fuses to 15A has had no effect and I reinstalled the 10A. I'm thinking I may have to use a relay harness but I shouldn't because its only a 35W Hid kit.
Like I said, if I turn on the lights BEFORE starting the engine, they fire up every time. That makes me suspect that I'm not getting enough juice to fire off the ballasts with the engine running. Anyway, DDM is sending me new bulbs which I strongly suspect aren't the problem. Although it's weird that only one side was affected before I swapped the bulbs. The goofball " tech guy" at DDM said if the bulbs don't work, then" we'll take it from there".
the relay kit is no sure fix. DDM just doesn't have very good quality control. I had the exact same issues as the OP. I ordered the relay, no change...still same problem. Went through two faulty bulbs/ballasts...gave up on DDM.
I know three others with the same issues with DDM kits...

Which brand HID kit did you finally go with?

Last night, I was searching for DDM Reviews and found most of them not to be favorable.......
I use a vendor I met on a scion forum. His company is 3BSpec and Mike aka operatic is the person I deal with. He knows his stuff, he overnights his deliveries and is based in Texas. I have purchased 5 kits so far from him for my various cars. The only problem I had was a bi hid/halogen kit I purchased from him for an h4 lamp. I wanted halogen for low and hid for high. He said to reverse the wiring, however the bulbs light point is spaced differently so the light spreads over a different beam pattern. Granted that sounds great in theory, but it didnt work.
We should consdier getting him as an advertisier or vendor. I am emailing more info to that person.
