Interesting.... Generally cold air intakes are vehicle specific. I bet you may need to cut the tube to length and in our case remove the heat shield. I am no where near my car at the moment, but I want to think the battery maybe in the way for the tube. Basically this would connect to the intake manifold and replace the old filter box. Make sure we do not have any sensor in that as that too would need to be switched over and those sensors need to be positioned a certain way too. Usually a mass air flow sensor and or temp.

The auction clearly says on the picture that styles vary and that "implies" that the picture is not vehicle specific and your's may look different. OTOH, the picture shows there is a place for the MAF on the bottom. So I would guess that they do indeed accomodate factory plug ins.

The battery doesn't seem to be a problem. My confusion arises because the Insight has two boxes. There is the filter box with the tube going forward to take air in and it connects to another box that hooks to the intake. Does this item just replace the filter box and fwd tube or both boxes? If it replaces the second box also, that box has a tube connected to it that would need to be connected to the aftermarket intake. It appears to be some kind of vacuum tube?

I don't know what the second box is. If the item on eBay just replaces the filter box and fwd, it would be a big waste of money. If it replaces both boxes and has adequate hook ups, it might have some advantages. It would have more advantages if the cheap red filter was replaced with a genuine high flow K&N.

The design of the Insight actually does a relatively good job of sucking in cold air. I don't know if sucking up underhood air would help. The benefit would come from a smoother air path. I think I'm happy with a K&N in the stock filter box.

I got to look, but I am assuming the tube replaces the box and makes a right angle from the throttle plate area towards the frontof the car to the grill. I am out on the cold vs warm air intake. I have had mied results with my previous vehicles with removing the snorkle making it a cold to warm intake unless its below freezing out. Id entetained the idea of just buiying a cone filter and strapping it on to the throttle intake area and removing the filter box, but do not recall if there is any sensor that would need to be in the loop. If there is, those sensors need to be spaced a certain distance to get the a/f right.

As is the air filter element is about the size of 2 credit cards as far as the filter area. Not sure we would benefit from a larger surface area unless it had some induction involved.
