You're gonna hate my advise. <g>

That's sad. But it is a fact of life. 40 years ago, when I was a teenager, I liked to tinker with my cars. Every time you modify your car, you call attention to yourself. The more you modify, the more you call attention. The more you call attention, the more likely you will attract the attention of someone who doesn't appreciate the same things you appreciate.

I'm not saying it's right. I am saying it's a lesson you just learned. It's the cost of doing business. The higher you hold the car on a pedestal, the more likely someone will try and knock it down. Whether you are parking away from everyone else or seen washing your car all the time, or making physical modifications. It's all calling attention to yourself. A shark fin antenna and a wing are just two more items that will attract people that appreciate what you have done and will also attract people who think you are showing off or bragging.

On the same lines, some day a cop is gonna be eating a doughnut in a parking lot and hear tires squeal. When he looks up, he's gonna see two or three possible cars that might be involved. Guess which one he is gonna focus on?

I've owned some of the finest muscle cars from the 60's and 70's, mostly GTOs, SSs and Trans Ams. I've had some of the sweetest Corvettes up until about 4 years ago. I've had show stoppers and race cars. Most people appreciate something nice. Most people appreciate when someone pours the heart and soul into a car. There is alway a small percentage of people that see something special and it triggers an inner rage.

One more thing. It's not always cars.

that really sucks.

I'm no car paint expert but I've seen some genuine car sprayer friends work wonders with scratches like that. The first question would be is the scratch right down to the metal or is it just quickly scraped along the bodywork.

If youre down to the metal then you're probably talking a respray to put it right "correctly"
But if its just a light scratch there is a rubbing compound that you can get that is used in the trade to finish cars off once they've been sprayed. This stuff is like T-Cut on steroids and can, with the help of a buff, get rid of most light scratches on a cars paintwork.
I'm sure the brand names are different but anyone in a car paint workshop would have something like this and the generic name in the UK is just "rubbing compund" so it could just be the same in the US.

hope this helps.

The problem with key cuts is that it makes a V shaped damage to the paint. Your paint is multiplle layers deep with primer, base, and clear coat and whatever you have added. That V shaped cut goes down through those layers, and there is no way that you can fill that cut up with something and expect it to match the layers of product next to it.

The textbook way to do it is to sand it all down so that the top of the V is about 2 feet wide instead of 1/64 of an inch wide. Then fill it in with multiple layers and sand smooth.

As mentioned above, if it didn't get past the bottom layer of base coat, you can use abrasive polish. This will take layers off of good paint to lessen angle of the V. The further you go out to lessen the angle, the better it will look. There are two important things to remember with this. First, you're taking off clear coat on the whole area that you polish. Initially, you can wax this area and make it look pretty good. Over time, you will notice this area get worse and worse because it has no clear coat. The second thing to remember is that the huge wide area that you polished to blend in the damage has much thinner paint on it now. Not only will it not be protected with clear coat, it will scratch more easily and have less depth to get down to metal.

See what your friends at the Maaco shop say. I would probably chalk it up to a battle scar. If it really bothers you to look at it with your quick fix, remember that if you just polish it out, you will always know it's there, it will need constant attention, and it will probably still bother you.

Man.... I think tango red pearl is over rated, our cars would look way cooler as a puke green, hunters orange or even Fusa(SP?).

Yeah, use a colored wax like what turtle wax offers with the chip stick in red. It is just a temp fix for shows. You can do a lot with touch up paint and some time.

I havent had any keys, but I got a lot of dings, every panel but the hood. I think the little creatures hate my red car and throw acorns at it.

Default vandalised paint

I attended a Motor Show in London, the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell car on the display stand , the paintwork had been vandalised by either a screwdriver or a key
