Default radar detector

for driver who know bout the radar detectors

i have an escort solo s2 radar detector and i dont know if it even works

these devices only gets the radar signal from the speed gun used by the cop( so when the gun is off, the radar wont go off )

it only gives false alarms ( by malls, where the electronic gates using the same radar signal are located) but 90% ( or maybe more) of the times when i see cops, specially on the freeway the stupid thing doesnt go off.

i feel like it doesnt even work anymore

my radar gets the K, Y and Ka bands and i read on the web that "some parts of the US got the band from europe, the Ku band.

maybe the cops are using this band??
i used to see the cop the the 91 freeway in socal... he would be out of his car with a gun that looked like a rifle pointing at oncomiing cars, my RD never went off... this specially made me doubt my RD

luckily i havent seen this cop anymore lately

what do you guys think??

Don't speed and you won't need a radar detector.!

I don't understand how you can say that you don't speed then make the next statement. You are going 10 MPH over the speed limit.

i consider speeding when someone just pushes the gas all the way and dont even bother to check theyre speed

they always go over 15 mph ( at least)

i always chek my speed
on streets i always go 4 mph more than the limit, but the most ill do it bout 8 mph

on freeways i always go round 70 to 75

Officer I "checked" my speed and I was going 100MPH in the 55MPH zone. You cant write me a ticket because I checked my speed.

Perhaps a little but it is also related to radar detectors and why people want them. If you don't believe you are speeding since you check your speed (as you have already said), there is no need to have a radar detector. You seem concerned that your detector does not alert you under certain conditions that you beleive it should.

You did ask for people's thoughts in your first post.

In my opinion, if you get a speeding ticket and try to fight it with your understanding of when someone is speeding or not, you will not win.

It doesn't matter if you know that you are going 10 MPH over the speed limit by checking the spedometer or if you are unaware that you are going 10 MPH over the speed limit.

Over the speed limit is speeding.....Police usually do give a few MPH grace period due to human error or speedometer error but they can pull you over for a 10 MPH difference and sometimes will.

The cops might have the Ku band. I don't know. There is also a laser signal used.

There is a different technology of radar that is "instant on". You can drive around the cop car with the latest technology and not get a signal at all if he isn't trying to catch a speeder. And when he does shoot someone with the radar, it's only on for a short time and goes back off. You might detect it or might think it came from a false source. Typically, a mainstream radar detector won't degrade over time. If you're getting false signals, it's probably working as designed.

Many of the guys in my Corvette clubs swore by the Valentine radar detectors. They are kinda expensive, but the Vette drivers have money to burn on toys instead of tickets. I haven't researched radar detectors in several years myself, but you could check the Valentine web site and see what you think.
