It will throw off the fuel economy and mpg and mph reading, but you got to do what you got to do.

Better would be to do a +1 sizing. Say 185/60r15.

What about 205/55/r15 - tougher to get this specification?

I would go with Cobb on this one. You don't wanna go one lower, unless you really do have to. If I were you I would go for the +1 as it would do you better, but that's just my opinion. Good luck.

Default Can 185/70/14 fit?

Why is it better to go +1 for the Insight 2010? I've always been told it's better to have narrower tires as snow tires, easier to cut through the snow, as I understand it.

BUT -- my question is can I use a set of almost brand new Michelin Arctic Ice that I have from an old car.

Size: 185/70/14 (but on 5 lug steel wheels for a Mazda)

I have tried to get steel wheels for the Insight's regular size, and even at junk yards they're asking over $100 per each steel wheel. Dealership wanted $140 each. Yikes.

I can get 14" steel wheels that will fit the Insight at far less, but I can't learn from my dealership whether there are problems with the tire size. It will be slightly taller than the OEM's, but the wheel will be one inch smaller.

Appreciate any input.

Also, roughly what's being charged to install tire pressure sensors? I'm assuming it has to be done by the dealer? Or programmed? Or something?

And what is the actual real life effect of NOT having sensors? My service person wasn't clear on why it's a problem.

You can mess with the tire size, but the wheels are another story. Its a tight fit for the front brakes and many have had problems with same size aftermarket wheels. If I were to slap on wheels Id pick the Honda Fit. At that the Insight is 4 lug, 5 lug wont fit.

You should be able to find plenty of 4x100 wheels at any junkyard

Without the tire sensors you cant turn off trac of skid control. When you are stuck in snow, sometimes you need to turn it off to dig yourway out. I have been in that situation. Othertimes you leave it on. YOu only turn it off after you are stuck to dig out.
