Default HID install for DRL lights

Hello everyone,
Just picked up my 2011 Insight in Sky Blue Metallic..love the color
I installed an HID kit in my low beam with 10K color...nice blue to match with the car color. I also want to install a 3000K HID in place of the DRL. I bought the relay for this from the same guy but after I install it ..the msg "check DRL" appears when I start the car...and the HID lights don't come on at all
Does anybody on here know what's wrong or how to bypass this issue? Thanks!

Welcome aboard.

The DRL is the high beam operated at a high frequency and 9 volts vs 12. You can buy an adapter to use your hids for DRLs from most HID vendors. The alternatice is to pull the DRL fuse, its 7.5 amps and behind the panel near the drivers side door or your knee.

Thanks Cobb,
That's what I thought...but maybe the relay that guy sold me is defective? Been calling him but he's not answering. I think I'm gonna call DDM Tuning people and get one from them. Hope it works.
I tried removing the DRL fuse but if I do that...then the light won't work at all..

You want to drive around with your high beam HIDs at full brightness all the time? The cars DRL system runs the halogen bulb at partial power to make it dim. The HIDs are either off or on, its difficult to regular their brightness. I just turned mines off by removing the fuse.

Cobb, any issues when you turn on your high beams? I got DDM HID 35W for my low beams and it takes a little bit of time for them to fire the first time.

They take a few to reach full brightness, but you can still flash people. I got 3000k for max visibility for my night driving.

Thanks Cobb I am going to pull the trigger and order the DDM kit with the relay like the one I have for my low beams but will go with 55w for the high beams.

I gave a friend of mines a ride home and we tired them out. He referred to them as barn burners. He said if I got too close to an old barn the brightness would make the exterior ignight.
