Default Side mirrors don't fold in completely/align to chassis...

Hey dudes,
Recently I've noticed that when my side mirrors fold in, they don't fold in completely (i.e. fold in a complete 90 degree angle, flush w/the door).

Instead, mine fold to about 80 degrees. I peered closer and it doesn't seem to be able to fold any more inwards... appears to be by design.

Is this just me being picky, or just me?

For the record - all other car makes I've seen seem to have door mirrors that fold to a complete 90 angle/flush w/the door...

Wow, I am speechless. If you had a situation where the mirrors need to be folded in, how would you exit the vehicle? Sometimes I fold my mirror in for car washes or if I have to snuggle up against the passegner side of another car next to mines of someone I know at work when its hard to find a spot.

Man, sounds like the US model lacks quite a few features.

Well, when the mirrors fold in, it wouldn't impede you getting out of the car... the mirror'd just "stick" alongside the body panel. Your car door would still open and swing out fully, regardless if the side mirror was folded in or not.

Over here in our part of the world, having folding side-mirrors are quickly becoming a necessity - especially in sprawling towns where parking spots are just the size of a standard B-segment car (unlike in the US where parking spots are HUGE - we don't have that luxury in Asia

So, having mirrors that fold in help when parking in cramped spots (which is 99.9999% of all parking spots in town), and when squeezing through narrow alleyways.

In fact, i'm looking to rewire the IN2's folding mirrors, so they "auto-fold in" as soon as you kill the engine, and auto-fold out when you start her up. That'll save me repetitive motions of hitting the fold-in switch.

No, no, no, no. I mean, if you got to fold in the side mirrors to park in a spot, how the heck do you have enough room to open the door to get out, or do you even use the door in those situations?

This one day at work only 1 spot was open within 1000 ft of the building. I folded in my mirrors, poped the hatch and pulled in. Just enough room to driv ein straight ahead at no angle. It was 2 suvs who were parked over the lines. I climbed out the back, shut the hatch and went inside. I heard people who walked by giggling, laughing and saying stuff in support as this is common for suvs to take more space than necessary and mess up the rows.

Well, when I came out, the 2 suvs were there, but no angry mob. I popped the hatch, crawled in, back straight out, drove down a row, got out popped out the mirrors and went home.

At my previous job I would snuggle up against a co workers car on their passenger sie with mines as it was street parking and at an angle.

that doesn't sound like fun. you should've left a nice little note for both SUVs as you left (a nice long graze w/yr key alongside their paintwork would work too
