Default Looking Ahead to New Tires

Looking ahead to new tires I noticed a paucity of 175/65/15 options and came across this article ... perhaps it will be of interest along with the tire size calculator

Just got the Yokohama Avid Envigors. Same as OEM size I can tell you they are so much better the the Dunlops that were on the the car originally. They are a lot quiter, better grip and handling in the rain. I have had them for about 3 weeks now and have not seen really any MPG decrease. So far very happy with them.

Ive had the yoks for a thousand miles. I am velcroed to the road. I can not trigger trac or skid control with them. I stop on a dime and get 9 cents back. No change to fuel economy, running at 47psi.

My only compliant is the loud noise on curves. They make a nice whine noise as they load up with lateral forces. When accelerating slowly from a stop with no noise or radio on they make a noise similar to the segway.

I just replaced 2 of my tires (had a flat in one that ended up damaging a TPMS sensor) at 26k miles. There are a pair of Nokian WR G2s on the front of the I2 now and they're great. Significant improvement in wet traction and 56 mpg (by MID, so a little optimistic) driving the 23 mile trip to work the next day. Tires only at 39 psi.

I had a deer jump out in frontof me on i295. I did what Pat Goss suggestes on his segment about ABS. I stomped, stayed and steered around the animal. I saw both of my yellow lamps blinking as the tires chirpped as I drove like I was doing 10 mph in a parking lot.

Another time I had a deer jump out in front of me on a back road. No sooner I slammed on the brakes every loose item came rusing to the front of the car. This included a can of slim fast. Wow, these yok avids rock.

Finally trashed the OEM Bridgestone Turanzas (185/55/R16) after almost 2 years and 30K km/18600miles and went for Michelin Energy Savers 195/55/R16 (617$/430€, alligned)
The handling/cornering appears to be the same (running @ 42psi, same as with the Bridgestones), the riding/cruising quality is superb and i have not noticed any significant increase in mpg (4 tanks so far, using the aircon more than usual).
A happy consumer.
