Default 2011 Base Model Radio Replacement

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forums, just got my base insight last weekend..

So I am replacing the stock radio with an aftermarket one and thought I would help out with some info. Apparently the 2011 base has a different connector set than the LX or EX/EX-NAV do. From the picture I sent to Crutchfield they believe it is the 2006-Up Civic harness and antenna adapter.

Before I found this forum, I ordered what they had listed for the LX, which do not fit.

Here are the part numbers they are sending me to make it work:

12040HD10 - Antenna adapter
120701722 - Wiring harness
120997878B - Mounting kit

Here is the picture of the connectors I took last night.. I'll update this once I get the parts and install, but I won't have them until around Tuesday..
Also, The person I talked to is gong to see about getting the base model added to their database to prevent this issue again..

Default 2011 Insight

I just purchased my Insight too just a week ago, and I have a base model too. I wanted to upgrade the stereo too with a Navi unit so this info is helpful! Also I am curious if the wiring to the rear speakers is there or not? The dealer was not sure of this?

I haven't had the rear doors open to look yet, but from what i have heard the wire is there and connected. The only thing that may be missing is the speaker mounting ring from what someone else said in another post. (don't remember which post).

Thanks for the info! I am going to look into installing some speakers in the rear doors soon, and I will let you know about the wires. There is not alot of info availible for the install of electronics of this car yet, but I guess in time there will be!

No news on speakers other than they sound better now with my Pioneer connected..

I installed a Pioneer MVH-P8200BT that I had in my old car. I was actually able to use the factory brackets since the base model has a "basic" radio the bracket just fit.. All I did was remove the 4 screws holding the factory radio to the bracket, slid the Pioneer out of the mounting sleeve they provide, and put the factory screws back into the pioneer. The holes all lined up and everything!

I also mad an adapter to hold a Schche phone bracket without the stupid suction cup thing. Instead I have a piece of aluminum that connects to the screw below the temp controls. I just had to use a longer screw than the factory one to fit it. The only drawback is that it shakes a lot so I need to find a second place to secure it.

I do need a shorter iPhone USB cable... Too bad the Pioneer doesn't have a USB port on the back.

Now just to figure out how I can mount my sub in here using the space around the spare tire.. I have a Infinity Kappa Perfect 10" VQ that I'd hate to not be able to use...

Entirely off topic, but can you share your method of how to pull out the bracket where the 12V socket is located?

Yes I can.. "pain in the a.."

Seriously though, basically I used a thin screwdriver to make some finger room way under and in the back, wiggled until I got fingertips of both hands wedged behind it and yanked.. If you don't yank on it hard, it won't go as I pulled REALLY hard to the point it hurt with one hand and it didn't budge. Pull straight out towards the shift lever.

On the good note, the clips appear to be decent quality and didn't break. They snapped in again and hold solid.

It's been a month since I started trying. I went berserk trying to pull it out but it won't....it just won't. It's such a desperate thing to do, and my hands are still hurting.

Anyway thanks for sharing.

Don't give up.. it really does come off.. I actually drove the car for 5 or 6 days with it hanging waiting for the correct harness to come in since I didn't want to do it again.

think about 2 hands on rowboat oars and thats about what it was like to pull it out, except more of a snap than a watery slosh.. good luck!
