Sequential tail light turn signal?

Ever since I first got my I2, I haven't been able to get the potential awesomeness of having the outer triangular LEDs of the tail lights made into sequential turn signals. I've been looking around online, and there's a serious lack of how-to or kits for this sort of thing. Also been thinking about reperposing something that's ready made, by removing it's LEDs and conecting them to the Insight's. Then the only other concern is how legal these are, but I see lots of new mustangs here in CA with them.

Anyone have some advice? Not so sure if this is worth the potential problems, like having broken turn signals and brake lights at the same time... But they look so cool!

Sure they are cool, but everyone and their brother owns a mustang.

What I think would be best is to replace the turn signal bulb with a red led, then loop it to the brake light circuit, so you just have park, brake and reverse. Then get some leds and make your own turn signal below the lamp with those leds that the big commercial trucks use. Heck, they may already make a sequential one and its just a matter of making a hole for it to mount in and wiring it up.

Myself, I want to make the whole rear area where the 3rd brake light is mounted light up.
