Default Changed my oil today.

Yup, finally did it. Oil life meter said 30% but at 9,100 miles I couldn't let it linger in there any longer.

The plastic shrouding is a bit to take in at first glance but I now know how to quickly get it off and back on. And getting it back on properly took me a moment or so, because I had to re-undo everything to make sure I slid the shroud overtop of the foremost shroud to make sure I could get the two buttons in place properly.

I was like, why the hell are these buttons not popping into place and just falling out. Gave it a look over and noticed I evidently was reinstalling it incorrectly.

Oil looked alright. Was black, no weird colors, like brown. Still had some life left to it from a visual approximation. But it had definitely done its job, and needed changed.

Oil filter ... holy crap, Honda gets that thing tight on there from the factory. The oil drain bolt was easier to get off with one hand-whack of the ratchet.

The small oil filter threw me for a loop since I had to use a small crappy oil filter wrench to get it off. My Honda-standard oil filter wrenches have a rubber coating on the inside to help with friction so it doesn't simply spin around the oil filter trying to get it off.

The lame generic smaller oil filter wrench I had was just metal. So I actually had to line it with a paper towel to get any sort of friction to loosen the oil filter. Took me several attempts to get the paper towel inside the wrench to get the job done also. But I prevailed.

Slapped a Mobil 1 filter on and Mobil 1 0w20 oil back in the Insight.

Will be able to do the process a lot faster next time.

I have a couple wooden ramps carved out of tree logs. I just drove the front of the Insight up on there and it was still too low to the ground to get under there with a creeper so I tossed the creeper and just laid on my back on top of some cardboard boxes. Tight fit, but I don't like using jack stands unless I absolutely have to.

For my Accord that sits a few inches from the ground I have to pull it up the ramp so I can even get a jack under it and then have to get it on stands to do any work. So, it's quite nice not having to use jack stands on the I2 to do any fluid work.

My Insight hit the 20% mark at 6200 miles. I figure either the car sitting on the dealer lot almost a year before being sold or the unusually hot summer here in Texas had something to do with the car wanting the oil changed so soon.

It was probably due to the car just sitting there. I'm figuring it accounts for the last time the maintenance-minder was cycled.

Perhaps not, but that's the sensible thing I can think of.

1st time the oil was at 30%.
2nd time it was at 15% (was 20% the day before or so).

I was trying to get to 20k before changing it but I ran out and grabbed the oil / filter because the wife wanted it changed.

Once we hit 15% the maintenance reminder icon wouldn't leave the dash display, I mean you could cycle it off to a different screen but it was there in your face every time you turned the car on in all of its glorious orangeness.

Can't say I blame her, I wanted that screen gone, too.

Same here. First oil change is like 10 grand, since then every 7500 or so. I was at 15% and told them to do it at the shop when it was serviced and water pump replace from the accident.

Ive driven like a mad man and baby it, the only diff was the outside temps.
