Default Scan Tools ... Any Favs for Use with I2?

I was just thinking ahead to my first oil change (and a code that needs to be cleared) so I thought it would be prudent to invest in an OBDII code reader and eraser .... this no nonsense one from actron (a mechanic friend of mine suggested this manufacturer) looks pretty good and cheap

Amazon Amazon

... and some more info ...

Actron®

Actron®

Amazon Amazon

... does anyone use a code scanner and eraser? experiences? good ones? bad ones? where is the OBDII port?

I'd spend the money for a full function OBD2 scanner so you can look at freeze frame and live data. Bear in mind that you can only read engine and transmission codes and only what Honda deems necessary to comply with the OBD2 guidelines. The socket is under the driver's dash. Just look, you'll see it.

Not to go off track, but you do realize that clearing an oil change indicator is as easy as clearing your trip, right?

i didn't know that .... as this is my first new -- and eminently modern -- car, I was under the impression that oil change/brake wear/etc. codes appeared and had to be cleared with a visit to a pro (and I further assumed that they would then be cleared with a scan tool ... if they can be cleared manually, how do you do that? can owners also check any other codes? check engine lights/etc.? which lights/codes can I clear and which do you need a special tool for?

Read you manual, it shows you how to reset the oil life indicator.

I have a basic ODB II scanner. If it reads the codes and will clear codes, that's enough for the vast majority of us. But.....

I am kind of a tech geek and was looking at software for tablet computers and found that some of the bluetooth scanners can link to a hand held tablet. It sounds pretty interesting to me.
