Default Rostra 250-1859 Installed

I just finished installing the Rostra 250-1859 cruise control into my 2011 Insight. It was the easiest cruise control I have ever installed but the limited space under the dash provided some challenge to it. It works great and will make the car much more comfortable on highway trips.

If anyone else is considering installing one and is not sure what to do about the clutch switch wires, they do not attach to anything. Just tape the ends and tuck them out of the way. Also, there is an orange wire in loom that never gets mentioned. Tape the end of the orange wire and tuck it away too.

Wow, congrads. Do you use a button on the steering wheel to control it or did it include a stock you attached near the turn signal?

So, basically you installed power, ground, vehicle speed sensor wire and a brake petal pass through?

I mounted the stalk near the turn signal lever. See the picture for details.

There were also 4 wires to attach to the accelerator pedal. Those were the hardest to solder because they were right against the firewall.

Talking I just Had it installed in mine and now it wont work...

I had it installed since this is my first Honda, and it is the most computer interfaced thing I have ever driven. I picked up a base model since it was the only one they had and I really do love driving it. But I have been doing a lot to it and when I changed out the factory stereo with a nice Kenwood with Sirius, Pandora, aux in, blue tooth phone interface, and USB. (I have the specifics in another post.) But the reason I'm jumping in here is that after putting in this stereo, my cruise doesn't work. The tech got on the phone over and over with Rostra and troubleshot the module and eventually sent it back, since they (Rostra) never had one fail before. They sent a new one, and had him reinstall all new everything (i.e. connectors, module, switches, relays, all connections are now soldered and wire-tied up nice and pretty. Everything is checking out perfectly, but it doesn't work.

He suggested that I install the factory radio and perhaps the only two wires that aren't being used through the Crutchfield Adapter (that allowed me to plug into the factory wiring for my speakers) may be the input into the cars computer which takes the cars speed and increases the stereo volume at highway speeds... This might be the feedbck or input to this Rostra Unit.

Did any one who installed a Rostra Cruise upgrade from the base radio/CD?

Just to let everyone know, I did reinstall the factory radio, and plugged in the two connectors into the back, along with the antennae and entered the code to activate and use it. I then went for a drive and tried to engage the cruise- Still didn't work

Well we're trying to get to the bottom of this problem since I've enjoyed so much about this car, I just installed Clazzio Leather Seat covers (Sweet and now this problem... Are these Insights more temperamental then other cars?

I just followed the link and bought a factory service manual to get some more info. If I had any doubts about getting this installed, I would have tried harder to get one of these manuals to know more about the interconnections with the cars components.

Any input from you all would be appreciated.

And another quick question- are there any lifetime memberships still available?

I'm going to drive this car for along time, and most likely will never sell it. I think I have a lot to contribute to this forums banter

Rather or not it used the vss wire shouldn't effect anything. If you have replaced the module and reinstalled the oem radio and it still doesn't work, then I have no idea.

Default Update! Got it working!

The reason it didn't work when I put the factory radio back in was because he had unplugged the control switch mounted to the steering column, from the Rostra unit.

So when I brought it back and he spent more time riding around in it with his cell and Rostra on speaker trying things... They decided to tie the 2 unused wires from the cars harness (Not used in the Crutchfield harness adapter) They were both Blue, It started working again.

It was the VSS lead going to the PCM and the K-Line lead going to the plug under the dash Data Link Connector (DLC).

I'll try and get some pictures on here later so everyone that gets a Rostra Cruise control and replaces the Factory Audio Head unit, can enjoy both with little or no frustration.

Now I'm On to the Map light with Home link install!

You know, that doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. I just wish there was something available on the right side. Every cruise control equipped car I have driven has the controls on the right. I may still look into this.

Hey Touche, did you ever get a chance to take pictures of this?
