Default ¿A simple way to add phev capabilities to the insight or a stupid idea?.

It would be possible to connect this kind of battery (LiFeYPO4 batteries (12V) - GWL/Power - Your Complete Power Solutions - EV-Power.eu) ) a LiFeYPO tipe model LP12V90AH+ - WB-LP12V90AH (12V/90Ah) to the insight 12v oem battery to supply energy to everything in the car but the electric motor?. So we could use the insight 100v battery only for the electric motor.

The idea is to plug in this battery (with the right charger of course) to a home socket. I´m not sure but I think that this battery it´s almost a Kilowatt.

We also will save the DC-DC lost that happens when the 100v battery supply the 12v.

When this 12v 90Ah get deployed or half deployed It would be able to take regen electricity in this battery?.

I got no idea about electricity and batteries, so I.ll be very gratefull for your help.

Short answer is you might in theory save an imperceptible amount of gas but the return does not justify the investment. One could do the same with the standard lead-acid 12 volt battery by disabling the dc-dc converter and recharging between drives. This would be hard on the battery though and likely damage it over time. In general, there are better places to spend your time and money that net a greater mpg improvement.

I am leaning towards stupid myself. Granted the oem hybrid pack holds just a tad over 500 watts and when its used to power both defrosters, lights, etc you are sucking it dry.

I think you should start with lessen your 12 volt loads like replacing all lamps you can with leds, your halogen with hid. Then roll down the windows or use the lowest blower speed possible for the HVAC.
