Last Thursday one of my coworkers tells me he just had a little accident with my car (picture attached).
Needless to say, I need a rear new bumper. Got a quote from the body shop, however I'm still concerned that they're not going to be able to properly match the color because it's spectrum white pearl, and that's a tricoat. I'm pretty damned anal about my car and I try to keep it in perfect condition, so having an even slightly mismatched bumper is going to be a pretty big issue with me.
Have any of you had experience with body shop color matching, particularly on a tricoat color? Am I worrying about nothing?
My rear bumper was hit and had to be replaced. When I took it to the shop, I asked the shop manager if the paint would match, and he said it would, but on all cars paint on plastic does looks slightly different from paint on metal, and asked me to look closely at the original bumper on the car, and sure enough, if you look closely, the original paint looks different on the plastic and metal surfaces. Seeing this before the car was painted, kept me from thinking it was the new paint that did not match. He also said not to wax the bumper for 6 months after it was painted, something I have never heard before.
Match is a relative term. You mean the texture, shine, depth, richness, sparkle???
I have the tangle red pearl and both times it was painted it looked slightly off, but after a month being outside its matcxhed itself. I was advised to not install a bra for 30 days or anything on the paint.
