Exhaust plug - FAILED
From what I can see there are quite a few similars between the new and older Insight. For one, all things considered, the throttle petal is one of countless factors to controls the amount of assist.
Since I went to a straight pipe exhaust I tried plugging it to get more assist and burn less gas. Although I have heard the arguement a dirty air filter or pluggged exhaust can lower mpg, it can also stay the same or raise it. In my case it lowered it. Sure my car hauls better by the seat of the pants dyno, I dont see 70mpg+ that often since my exhaust change. I do hower stay under 3 grand on my daily driving.
So I made a plug out of chloroplast and put it inside the tail pipe tip. It was sandwiched at the end. For the start of my trip, with the phev running I made a negative recal and saw a lot of assist. My mpg was lower than expected and when I got to my destination the tip was clear again.
