I'm sure you can. The question is.. who will be the first to try?
We have a couple of parallel pack people in the 1st gen arena. I plan on doing it eventually.

Intergrating it all into the Gen 2 IMA system in such a way as it works, doesn't give fault codes and is easy to replicate. Beyond that i've no idea i don't have an I2.
Whats the budget? Why do you want to do it? Whats your expected outcome?
You can get the guts for an enginer phev kit for 500 bucks and supply your own batteries. It uses 48 volts and outs out about a kilowatt an hour.
Myself, I want to do what Peter has done with the lith pack, bcm fooler, etc, etc, etc.
Next would be a better battery from Ron. With a larger capacity battery inside the car the only way to get more power out of it is to put more into it. As is it seems to take a good city block to get a full charge.
Wish I could post photos from this app. I just gutted the rear of my car and removed the back seat. Wow, it seems to sit 2 inches higher.

What would a battery run? I wouldn't know where to start on how to hook up a PHEV Kit. I was just curious as to how many MPG could be gained by adding a second battery?
When You get a chance I'd like too see what your Insight looks like with the rear seats removed. Are you gutting it to reduce weight; or are you planning to put stuff back there?

This app wont let me upload photos, pm me your email and I will send them to you. Will post when my pc is up and running. I did this for weight and max mpg. Since I own a suzuki sidekick its going to be my people hauler, thing for impressing women, etc. The Honda is my commuter car for working. I may take on a mobile service on the side with a friend.
The battery is up to you. You can use 4 deep cycle group 24 batteries from walmart for 200 bucks, then you need either 4 12 volt chargers or 1 larger 48 volt charger. Then make a box to put them in in the back. You can get them cheap on ebay and use a power strip to plug them in. That ought to give you 3000 watts or 3 hours of assist. The Enginer phev kit is easy to hook up, just 3 wires. 2 to the hybrid battery terminals and I tapped the accessory fuse with an add a circuit fuse holder and used a screw in the fuse box area for ground.

How long would 4 regular deep cycle batteries last used in that application; before you would have to change them? Would'nt you need a special battery like a Lithium or Nickel Hydride?
So your saying the whole thing can be done for like 1,000 bucks?
