Default LX to EX side mirror upgrade

Hello all, we got our 2011 LX last spring. The wife really wanted the EX with all the bells and whistles but we just couldnt afford it and decided that the LX is a better fit for us financially. Her bday is coming up and I was thinking of surprising her with the EX side mirror upgrade. I read on Honda's website that the mirrors are also heated which is a big plus for us here in the northeast during winter. I saw a few sites that sell the mirrors but Im not sure what other parts i'll need to complete the conversion. I'm assuming there are extra buttons for the heat option that I will need as well? Is there a list of the parts I'll need available online? I'd be great if someone has a pic of where the extra stuff goes on the dash/steering wheel too. Can anyone help? Thanks a lot!

Not sure how Honda did it for the mirror upgrades but normally what they do is make 1 wiring harness that is capable of operating all of the extra accesseries. It is cheaper for them to just make the 1 harness and then install it in all model levels of the car. This normally makes it easy to upgrade later because the plug is ussually right there, you just install the component and plug it into the waiting plug.

I'm going to guess that the electrical plug currently attached to the current mirrors you have has pins that get electricity that will defrost the mirrors, when you upgrade the mirrors those pins will now be used.

Like I mentioned earlier, can't say for sure on this car but it is a pretty good chance that is the case.

I have the 2010 EX Insight and assuming they made no changes for 2011 the control button for the heated mirrors is shared by the rear defroster button on the climate control cluster.

I'm not sure if the connector exist on the LX cluster or if the wires are present in the harness.

They are a nice addition, not just in the snow but even in the rain.

EDIT:

I just checked Majestic Honda and the climate control cluster P/N's are different between the LX/EX but this might just be the silkscreen on the front.

They all have power mirrors, so if I was you I would pull one of the mirrors and see if the wires are present. If they are I would check voltages while toggling the rear defroster button. If the voltage toggles that means the wires are connected on the other end I would think.

Also keep in mind the EX has integrated turn signals on the mirrors.

EDIT2:

OK, further research at Majestic Honda yields different wire harness P/N's (both interior and internal to the mirror) between the LX/EX.

Looks like it's going to be fairly involved. Check it out at MH:

What reference number are you looking at for the interior harness? It makes sense that the harness inside the mirror is different because LX doesn't have the defroster or blinker but he will get the new harness inside the mirror with the new one. All I see for the door harness is either Lt or Rt door. (ref# 5&6)

Also check the fitfreaks forum. They do a lot of upgrades and we share a lot of parts between the Fit.

Id double check, I cant see a women wanting heater mirrors or turn signals in them. If anything I would want smaller, more aero mirrors.

Better yet, how about a seat heater/cooler? Its my experience women are about comfort and like warm things.

The link was mainly just to get to MH. But yes, Wire Harness 2, Item# 5 Drivers side door has different part numbers for the LX/EX. Same with the interior mirror harness and the control cluster. I'm not a Honda parts guy so maybe there's only trivial difference between the A00 and A10. Anybody?

LX
32751-TM8-A00 005 001 WIRE HARNESS, DRIVER DOOR 103.54 72.48

EX
32751-TM8-A10 005 001 WIRE HARNESS, DRIVER DOOR 103.54 72.48

I thought I'd ask my wife about this.

I asked, "Hey. Do you like the heated side mirrors on the car?" she said, "Oh yea. I never have to scrape the damn things."

IMO they're pretty awesome. In about 60 seconds steam begins to rise from them. It's entertaining especially when you're outside scraping the other windows and pay notice to it.

I can take em or leave them. I havent used the rear defroster in this or other vehicles I owned, so its no benefit to me. I do however love my friends self dimming side mirrors on his mercedes as I do drive using my side mirrors.
