Interesting.... Must be a different design than mines. I had no problems with mines working with all the parts located with no mods.

Interesting too that the "chip" has some leads going to it. I guess if the battery dies in the remote, the key quits starting the vehicle? I always thought it was an rfid chip and passive, meaning it took no power.

I wish I could have gotten the model like yours, but it looked like people were having a lot of problems with that particular style so I didn't want to take any chances. The seller that you bought from probably had good keys, but I couldn't find any like that.

That's what I thought as well. People on the Civic forum said that their valet key doesn't need a battery, though. When they shave the key bare the immobilizer chip is sitting alone in the middle, so some of them just used that to be easier. It's strange that ours has to be attached to the circuit board..maybe it has something to do with the way the remote is programed?

Just finished moving the immobilizer and it worked out perfectly. I already closed the key up and put the emblem on but it's basically the exact same deal as the guide from the Civic forum I posted. Unsoldering the unit was a bit difficult at first..if anyone else attempts this then make sure you either have something to hold the chip for you or another set of hands to hold it while you hold the soldering gun up to the immobilizer while prying it with an exacto knife.

I tried using the stock (cut) key without the chip inside while holding the flip key with the newly transplanted remote unit beside it to start the car and it works fine. I'm actually surprised I didn't screw anything up! It was much easier than I had expected.

I bought the same one from ebay $14.95, All I did was replace the component module and the key cut at the dealer. It works fine..looks like a brand new flip key.

I just had the dealer cut the key and I moved the radio/button/battery module over to the new case with flip key. It worked for me with no problem. The honda freak fit forums shows you hacking the module to get the "chip" out and moving it closer to the bottom of the key so it transmits into the steering column when you go to operate the vehicle.

Took out remote from the regular key only to see the imoblizer chip is inside the remote. Not at all seperate so i was afraid it would be too far from the ignition like some said will keep it from starting the car.

Well long story short. Followed these directions.

minus the seperate chip part. Stopped by dealership where they cut my key for free. and works perfect without any modifications. The key was a little sticky going into the ignition the first couple times right after it was cut but now it's smoother after running it back and forth a few times.

btw this is the key i bought... same as the thread creator.
