Default Replaced the Nokian tires with same tire

We decided to replace the Nokian WRG2 tires with 44k miles after a recent major snow in Southern OR and Northern CA. The tread was at 4/32 " so it was still under warranty, which covers tread to 2/32. I did not want my wife driving with older tires under these severe conditions, especially with our 4 year grandson in the car. I had a really wild time driving through the storm from Redding, CA to Southern, OR in my Subaru. It was a graveyard of trucks and cars. It brought it home to me the importance of great tires. From my research I found that tires need around 6/32" of tread to handle snow. Most new tires have 11 to 14 thirty seconds ". Any other opinions on when to replace tires?

Default Tire Rack's opinion

I realize they have a vested interest in selling new tires, but check out this link to an article on the Tire Rack web site.

Tire Tech Information - When Should I Replace My Tires?

They suggest replacement benchmarkd of 2/32 for dry weather only, 4/32 for rain/slush, and 6/32 for snow.

Based on my research I agree with the conclusions of this article. Thanks. We weren't happy with the cost of new tires but I feel much better now for the safety of my wife and family members who ride often in the i2. There has been some brutal weather on the roads of Southern Oregon so far this year.
